Platinum Challenge with Upgrade Award Ticket

If I were to do a platinum challenge, how many points would I receive for a C code (buy coach and upgrade to business) ticket for my flights MIA-CDG-MIA?

Miles and points are earned for the purchased fare code.

You would receive miles and points in accordance with the purchased fare class; if you purchased "O", you would earn at the "O" level as shown in the Wiki and on aa.com, for example. The upgrade would not get you any additional miles or points, as your basis does not change.

As this belongs in the Challenge Help Desk, it will be merged there. Searching for existing threads (particularly easy when they are "stickies") and adding questions there helps keep the system running better (smaller database index) and makes it easier for others to find the information. Thanks / Moderator

Couple of questions about AAdvantage

Hello All

I´m planning a RTW and I need to choose a program to join. So couple of questions about AA´s program as I think it would be best for me at the moment as I´m hoping to get something else than just status out of my trip (couple of flights mayby).

My plan is to fly the following trip (DONE3):
tlv-xbud-mad-hel (longer break)-xjfk-lax-aus-jfk (longer break)-xdfw-hnl-nrt-del-bkk-hkg-sin-xlhr-tlv

I have read about the platinum challenge and I have figured out that it could be done with hel-jfk-lax-aus-jfk = aprox 9 200 miles which would give me around 13 800 EQP booked in D and A. All those flights would be flown under AA flight numbers. Would this be right?

Also I would need some help to figure out what sort of prize trips could be done with the collected miles?

Thanks for all the help in advance

Those are spelled out on the AA website. Note that One World awards are calculated very differenty than AA/partner awards.

Smile AA Challenge - Is it worth the money?

Hi

I am Delta Silver and Continental gold and have 11000 Miles in last years flight.

I fly out of PHL and next 3 months i have to fly to DFW.

I have 16 segments this year in Delta and 6 segments in US Air.

Since Delta does not have direct flights to DFW , i am planning to do AA which is more convenient in terms of timing.

So is it worth to do the Challenge for Platinum or fly delta so i will get 4 segments a week.

Also flying out of PHL , which is a good airline with lot of options to maintain status.

Thanks ...this is my first post and sorry if i am asking too much.

Just little confused.

regards
Anand

Welcome to FlyerTalk, Anand.

We've added your question to the Challenge Help Desk thread so you can get some direction from members.

In the end, only you can decide if the money is worth the status - but check the FAQ and Wiki for the benefits, etc. of Platinum as part of making an informed decision.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, Anand! In general, it's better to concentrate your flying on one carrier rather than three or four. That way you can maximize your elite status level and the resulting benefits.

i signed up for a gold challenge on 2/16 ($80, ending 5/15), attained it on 2/25, then upgraded to platinum challenge (+$100), which AA says i acheived on 3/9.

i have read through everything here on the challenge over the past few months, and diligently keep a spreadsheet of my travel. prior to signing up, i was a regular, non-elite member.

my question is whether AA made a mis-caculation or if i did, based on the data below. have 4 starred notes below.

not complaining on getting it early, but just wanted to see if i was off for future reference.

thx in advance. b.

If you are already Gold (not by challenge) and want to try a Platinum challenge, will they waive the fee or do you still have to foot the $100+?
