The new AW magazine has a rendering of one painted
Right forgot about that. Page 86-87. Looks like the engines are painted grey only.

A great, close-up photo of the new tail, courtesy of Airline Reporter.

The more I see it in context at big international airports, the more I like it. It feels modern and dynamic, easily recognizable at a distance or scattered among a variety of other carriers. In contrast, the old AA tail design now seems rather tired and dated (although not as bad as that lifeless blue globe at United).

About half of the aircraft at JFK was painted in the new livery today at about 4pm. It's starting to look more like the TV commercials. Now that there are many of them, it's actually starting to make the old livery look dated.

That reminds me of this pic I took at JFK earlier this month:

Old on the right, new on the left!

The pic is cool. Today, some of the new ones were keeping the old ones company.

Yes, easily recognizable at a distance but NOT in a good way.

I was at MIA on Saturday and saw quite a few newly painted AA aircraft. The tail is a hot mess. I do like the new AA logo though. They should have had the new AA logo on the tail instead of that jumbled mess of red, white and blue plus gray.

Agree.

Earlier on in this thread I praised the new identity (logo, look, etc.) but did not make any judgment on the livery, noting how things in "real life" look different than computer mock ups.

And now that I've seen plenty of these planes out there, I have to say that Futurebrand and the AA team (thanks Virasb) have done an amazing job all around. ^ ^

And it's doing its job -- distancing the new AA from the terrible and destructive race-to-the-bottom commoditization drive of Arpey during the 00s.

Feel the same way. The renderings seem to make the aircraft look silver, while the gray is much better. The tail also ended up looking better in person; the texturing makes the tail look well done as opposed to captain america-esque.

Have they finally started painting the Super 80s? Last I heard they had not.

I believe they haven't. Even if they have, there aren't a lot hanging around. Might have seen CRJ/ERJ aircraft in the new livery.

Having flown on and seen several new livery aircraft now, I really like it. Even the 738 which is the worst looking one looks better than the old livery - The body is now uniform vs. the old livery where the back, the underside and the nose cone were plasticky gray.

The uniform nose cone looks SO much better.^
