I don't mind the loss, to be honest. There are always 5% and 10% off discount codes for a lot of my destinations (mostly domestic). Besides, with the airline in bankruptcy, there's nothing to prevent AA from going to the bankruptcy court and having all these GCs declared null and void. At least if I pay by credit card, I have recourse in the event that the airline ceases operations.

Also, these can be stacked on top of the 5% or 10% off resulting in 15-20%.
Cheers.

For cards purchased after the filing, AA has no ability to walk away from them.
Ceases operations? Seriously? There's a minute chance that will occur, but even that would not cause the cards to become "null and void." Again, that's not how bankruptcy law works.

Wow, somebody should make a "gift card run" to Nashville.
I am slightly down on these cards today. I applied a small leftover credit from an old ticket to a new reservation: turns out that this meant I couldn't use GCs to pay for that reservation. AA's GCs have too many restrictions!

But the (Costco) GCs without other discounts (which aren't always available) applied to taxes as well, the other codes do NOT.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I used the gift cards I bought in June to book a flight for October. After a schedule change that makes the flights no longer work for us, I cancelled the flight. I was told I would get a refund back to my credit card, but I told the agent I had used gift cards. She told me that I would get a refund back to the gift cards.
After 48 hours and no refund, I checked AA's FAQ and it looks like the refund would be back to a voucher. Anyone have any experience with this? Is the voucher something I will get in the mail? I would like to book another trip but would like to use the value I already have towards the cost. Its probably time to call AA again, but I always prefer to know the right answer before calling! Thanks for your help -- Suzanne
