Choose your meal before your flight.
First Class Pre-Select is available on most Boeing and Airbus flights over 3.5 hours. That's 100 flights daily, including all coast-to-coast and West Coast to/from Hawaii flights; we're planning to offer it on all flights in 2019. First Class guests can choose between two main dishes, or have an Alaska's Signature Fruit and Cheese platter, served on a plate.
To get started, make sure you’re using the latest version of the Alaska Airlines mobile app.
Here's how First Class Pre-Select works
First Class meal options can be reserved from 24 hours to two weeks prior to your flight.
Within the app, head to the Trips section and then select your upcoming flight.
Once you're looking at the full details for your upcoming flight, scroll down and click the "Food menu" option.
Next, you'll see a menu of the complimentary meals available on your flight.
Choose the meal you'd like, then click the arrow to confirm your choice.
Presto! Your meal is pre-selected. The flight attendant will deliver it during your flight's meal service.
Note: if you change flights, your meal choice will not transfer to the new flight. You'll need to make a new choice within that new reservation.

you should still complain regardless of the source of the problem. AS has had more "catering errors" on my 100K miles of lifetime flying with them than on my 1M lifetime combined between DL and UA.

I agree! "catering errors" happen a lot in IAH and always fill out a survey!

Pre-ordering seems to be missing from BWI-SEA and SEA-IAD flights, my SEA-PHL flight for next week is available for pre-order.
IMHO, The rotation is monotonous and uninspired. It feels like after all the cod were fished from the sea, they harvested all the arugula (which I love) and bought all the pistachios on the market and are using them without enhancing the flavors. Also, miscatering is a given these days even out of Seattle. My SEA-IAD flight did not have the salad dressing loaded, which was fine because that meant that I could put the greens on my pasta. On the way home, I had to ask the FA where the cheese for the pasta was -she forgot it was part of the presentation. Good thing I brought some from home.
I guess the only positive thing about the salad and main course coming out at the same time is that one can enhance the main course with the vegetables from the salad.
Sigh.

The post said "FA had no idea about the pre-order program." Sounds like her problem. Why didn't she ask another F/A instead of brushing off the passenger.

My crew BOS-SAN went through the cabin confirming with each pre order person that they had the order. They mentioned a few times how great that is since they typically run out by row 4. Surprisingly every one got their choice.

it was 50/50 split.
The return flight this morning, no mention of pre-order just assumed they forgot. All of a sudden i heard the FA say "Oh shoot" and she was looking at her handheld device. She came directly back to me in 4A and asked if I had pre-ordered the granola, then she went to row 1 to I assume tell someone that they now had to have the omelet. She said at the beginning of the flight that only 4 granola loaded and 12 omelet's.

Ok, so I have the choice of the granola or the omelette for a flight next week. I chose the omelette but with all the talk of this granola, did I make a mistake? This is SJC-HNL so a long flight. Do I change? Decisions, decisions.....

Depends on your taste, I suppose. Personally I consider serving granola on a 5 hr flight to be extremely cheap and I would always go with the hot option. It used to that the granola was only on relatively short flights up and down the coast.

I do love granola but my thinking was the same as yours - for a 5-6 hour flight, I thought something more substantial would be the better choice.
