I'm not as much of an AvGeek as some of you are, but I will miss the F seats on the 400s. They are so much more comfortable than the newer F seats on the 800s & 900s.
Taking off on a -400 sometimes reminds me of the children's book, The Little Engine That Could.
(Chug, clunk, lumber, chug ... roar ... ) "I think I can, I think I can ... "
I'll miss those little planes when they're eventually phased out.

As I understand it (and I should introduce myself by saying this is rumor, I am in no way "in the know"), the combis will be replaced with pure freighters, as the C-40a (-700 combi) will not be available for civilian use. The smaller -700 has a better weight to power ratio for a freighter than the -800 or -900, so as the -400's go, all of the freight lift will be -700 freighters.
Timing, of course, depends on how long it takes for someone to start offering the -700 freighter conversion. Last I have heard was '17 at the earliest. Anyone have newer info?

the MDs had even better F seats as far as comfort goes.
I was fortune enough to ride them twice.
The primary noise upfront being the slipstream=priceless!

Agreed. The MD-80 seats were great. It was like those old Sprint ads where you could "hear a pin drop."
