Concierge stated something like: they needed space for Alaska club members due to crowding.

As an Alaska Lounge member it's nice to know they are doing something to deal with the overcrowding issue before the new lounge opens. I think this will likely become additional gate space when that happens but I wonder if this might have made a good "Express" lounge or even just another lounge to help absorb some of the growth in connecting traffic at PDX.

I used my Q3 passes at the PDX lounge a few days before the end of the quarter. We only had about twenty minutes before boarding for the next flight started, and the lounge was packed, but were lucky to get the last table in the overflow patio area. Just enough time for a coffee and a small breakfast.
I actually also have access via the AA Exec card, but I wanted to see the process that required the agent to type in a thirty letter string of random digits. Turns out the computer was down, so that wasnt possible.

Passed PDX today. Saw the sign. A couple folks outside were confused and started scanning the QR code. Some were doing it inside the lounge after entering the door. I showed front desk my boarding pass, he scanned it and let me in. I'm a lounge+ member, but there were still empty seats in the overflow area.

So I showed them the lounge passes, which they couldnt enter because of their system being down. I then showed them my Atmos # in the app, which they wrote on a piece of scrap paper to pull the passes later.

With a single stall in the men's restroom, I've been having to use the restroom across the hall in the terminal quite a few times.

They've really painted themselves into a corner here. To me, their problem now is everyone "earned" their access through engaging with AS and their programs. I may not fly enough to earn status and day passes, or to warrant Lounge membership, but I did pay for the Summit card with the reasonable expectation that I'd be able to use the passes when I do travel. This wait list when the lounge isn't really full worked ok when they were turning away Priority Pass members, those folks didn't engage with AS to earn entrance and may not even have been flying AS.

I wonder how they are determining whether or not to implement the wait-list...I doubt they wait for it to get to 100% since they likely need to keep a certain percentage of seats open for lounge members that may show up.

I wonder if they get a report of how many lounge members are flying and when. Granted this doesn't account for guests, but could make a bit of a forecast.
