This is simply not true. I had 2 upgrades at T-119 in the past two days.

I just was upgraded T-5 for Hawaii-ANC n/s. 100K+companion was too. Outbound not looking too promising:/

I take it you weren’t on the same reservation?

I’m reminded of a flight where #1,2 and #3,4 respectively had same last name initials, and I was thinking that it would influence your guess in case of an SDC of where you might wind up on the list.

Wow!!!! Just has 3 people jump me
on the upgrade list after everyone seated. 3 were 2-4 on upgrade list. I was #1 for the last 24 hours.

What did the gate agent say when you asked?

We were all already seated. No gate agent to talk to.

As long as the door hasn’t been closed and your request is firm, the FA will wheel in a GA. Worked for me one day within the last year. But you may need to present yourself in such a way that the FA understands you mean business. Depends on the FA of course. :)

The In flight crew salvaged this fiasco. They acknowledged me and expressed disappointment after the flight took off.

They were extra attentive to my experience. Lead crew came by and put in for me to get “miles” whatever that means. Wrote a synopsis of the experience with specific confirmation number , date and flight number on Alaska listens. .

Don’t expect anything other than the acknowledgment.

Even worse than I thought…

1 FC seat went empty!!

Last Saturday on SEA-PDX, I was traveling with my son who has no elite status and about T-1.5, my name mysteriously dropped off the upgrade list but my son was still on the list. I asked the gate agent who was as perplexed as I was and she took the time to call for help. At boarding she said she thinks it had something to do with the fact that I SDC to an earlier flight (which I don't think was the case since I was on the upgrade list correctly after SDC) but if there were an open seat, she would make sure I got it since I was #1. I normally don't want to break my PNR if I'm traveling with my son and there are future flights on the reservation because he would lose my elite status benefits, but this time around it didn't matter. They went ahead and upgraded me which of course separated our PNR but the future flight attached to this itinerary still shows him on the upgrade waitlist even though he is by himself with no elite status. I don't know if this has anything to do with the HA transition but there are weird things going on lately (beyond the "normal" weird things...lol). Btw, since they never were able to get me on the upgrade waitlist I showed up on the awaiting seats list with a F seat so I'm sure some on the waitlist saw that and wondered how that happened...lol.

Had a situation yesterday where U2 became available 4 hours before the flight and I was #1 and 2 (with companion). Not the first time I’ve seen a lag on the processor, but the online check in trick worked to confirm my upgrade right then and there (and to protect it from others jumping the line)

I'm glad to hear this works still--this weekend when I tried that usual trick I kept getting a request for $$ when I would click upgrade to first class (with open U space).

So this trick is essentially Southwest style check-in, first come first serve?

does this work when you are already checked in? Or do you have to get unchecked in?

There's a recent thread here that discusses that type of glitch. I added the following:

Mrs. Fredd and I (both 100K) were 1 and 2 on the UG list for the short SEA-BLI flight. There had been four empty seats in F on this flight for several days, right up to our arrival at the airport. Just as we got to the gate, she was upgraded to F and my name disappeared completely from the UG list, although the names of those below me remained.
I didn't make clear that I was actually 1 on the ug list and she was 2. I informed AS and will be interested if they have any explanation.

Wow, sounds like this one is alive and well--makes battlefield upgrades that much tougher when they completely remove you from the upgrade list...lol.

The chinese group are taking themselves off waitlist and just hooking into sabre to grab U space straight as it's released as to not tip off people that they're being skipped. Not sure how big of an effect it is happening but that's the current strategy they're employing.
