And for many HVCs, we are NOT going to book unless we can confirm in advance that we will get a decent Space+ seat.

Hi there

Over 50% of the customers who took part in the user testing over 2 days were HVC's. The feedback we get through user testing is so valuable to the change we are proposing plus how it is today.

I am not suggesting customers don’t want to know what seats are available before booking. The challenge is how we introduce it into the booking flow without it being a distraction for our customers and taking them away from the main task of making a booking.

Having seat request in the booking flow may be reviewed going forward as we make further enhancements and improvements to the websites.

I hope that helps

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,
Personally I like the way Air Canada handles the seating question when purchasing online.

Blackcloud Nov 21, 2010 6:01 pm

Personally I do not see the seating plan as too important for me. I look at the schedule fisrt, most flights I cannot change the date, so if the seat is not available it does not mean I will cancel my plans (often short notice).
Having seats pre-allocated such a long time ahead will always disadvantage flyers like me. I was not happy when NZ introduced it, I was not happy when QF et. al. also introduce it.
If this is a big issue then I would subscribe to KVS or Expert Flyer.

I want to book a AKL-BNE/MEL-AKL using the multicity tool - however, it automatically books me into economy class rather than giving me any choice? The only way to get seat + bag is to book flights individually which I don't really want to do. Thanks

I've experienced the same problem. Buying two singles is way more expensive too!

You could book seat only and then "upgrade" it to seat+bag on myairnz after you've booked?

I've run into the same problem - the issue is that the multicity tool hasn't been changed to the new "seats to suit" style yet, so the only thing you can book is Works ie what used to just be called economy.

It also seems that the multicity tool doesn't take into account latest sale activity, i.e. what it comes up with is more than what you would expect for two one way legs (e.g. if you look at the AKL-BNE-AKL and take the AKL-BNE price, and a AKL-MEL-AKL and take the MEL-AKL price)?

The call centre can waive the fee though.

Yes, I noticed the same thing, although it seemed to get it right some of the time - admittedly I wasn't looking at sale fares and I wasn't thorough in my research.

brenrox Nov 22, 2010 9:52 pm

Judging by the cost and the class type as 'Economy' I'm guessing it books in to works (which i don't want). Problem is when you book MEL-AKL individually you don't get access to the current sale fares.

Wish they would just re-do the multi-trip itinary all together. I've had to use Expedia to do such a booking a number of times

Hey Paul,

I'm trying to help out my folks, who are coming to NZ this January. The website insists on putting them in seats one behind the other rather than opposite (1A 2A or 1K 2K rather than 1A 1K and so on). Is this a known issue? Do I/they need to ring up? I'd be grateful for an email rather than a reply here, as I'm on the road at the mo: [email protected].

Cheers,

--John

Hey Paul

You missed my post...is this something you plan to address in the future? Given that you are trying to give us as much choice as possible now, I would like to have the opportunity to choose seat + bag, rather than be allocated works when trying to use the multi-city tool....

Thanks in advance for your help

That's fine - aslong as it's in the pipeline. Do the Reservations team have the capability to do it over the phone for me?

Kiwi Flyer Nov 25, 2010 7:59 pm

Not so much a website issue but Air NZ technology related so I hope this is the right place to post it.

The new flybuys linked airpoints card interferes with snapper card. :(

? How the Airpoints card, unlike the QF card (which is not in my wallet), does not have an RFID chip.
Personally in my wallet I have 3 RFID chips, NZ (eChip), Snapper and building access. The only issue I have is Snapper readers pick up the others, so in the fold out portion of wallet, while no problems with building acess or NZ Gate Readers.

Kiwi Flyer Nov 25, 2010 8:29 pm

The new airpoints card is the only new card in my wallet so I assumed that was causing interference which was not there before. [My new QF card hasn't arrived so it can't be that.]

Maybe your employer has inserted an RFID chip in you somewhere....

Hi Paul,

I took NZ8421 AKL-NPE a week ago and it has not posted -- I tried to do an online claim for this but NZ8421 didn't appear in the tool as a valid flight.

Just tried tonight and I see the missing points tool is completely different from a few days ago and it correctly found and posted the missing bucks, and showed the PNR/ticket number it came from.

This is a nice improvement - the old tool had never worked for me at all!

I'm currently trying to make a claim for my AKL-LAX-AKL flights last week. The new missing points tool is used if you click the link on the top tool bar, however if you click the link at the bottom of your activity page it reverts to the old missing points tool.

Both of these appear to be as useless as each other, even though the new tool supposedly accepted my claim yesterday, flights still havent posted?

Ironically all my domestic flights using UA, CO, & AA posted to my accounts within 48 hours. Not sure why partner airlines should credit to accounts faster than flights taken on NZ's own metal?

And at the same time, myAirNZ account activity has gone nuts: flights from 2009 and early 2010 are reposting today on 29NOV as zero status bucks/blank airbucks. Lots of weird dupes showing up...

Mine too, I had been seeing transactions from all over the place with lots of duplicates.

Now it appears to be fixed.

We’ve picked up that this link was missed when we made the new tool live, and will be rolling in a fix shortly.

There shouldn’t be any reason for your partner flights to be credited to your account faster than Air New Zealand flights – could you let us know your booking reference and we’ll investigate further

A good sign of improvement. I notice there is a claim status column after the claim but how do we go back and check the status?

wayoutwest Nov 29, 2010 8:01 pm

Used the new tool this morning for some TT flights and while it said accepted - nothing appeared (may happen over night).

On the other hand a flight I got off at 1715 last night was up and credited by 1930 - pretty good goin

Big thanks to Paul and the team for solving this issue! It's been working for a good few days and I have only one flight of four where the folks are not in 1A and 1K. So, thanks, folks. Hurrah for FT and the NZ website team.

Thanks for your comments John. We are continually making improvements to the website and booking engine and feedback from FT is certainly taken into account when we are prioritising what gets into each release.

Cheers

For those using Google Chrome, when logging into myairnz directly from the homepage you now go straight to the full flash version of myairnz rather than the old non-flash version that had been coming up for a couple of months.

Woo hoo! As a Chrome user MyAirNZ is back!

I felt very special until I saw in my portlet:

"We hope you're enjoying the latest edition of Airpoints Magazine, but don't forget to check out your 0 exclusive offers before the end of the month."

Consider them checked.

Rebound Dec 9, 2010 3:15 pm

adl73x mine were showing two days ago in chrome but they were all useless holiday package offers or flybuys :/ i was hoping to see hotel offers or bonus AP$ :/

Also, the Airpoint Magazines seem to be coming out closer and closer to the end of the month now

Yay! Unfortunately I'm so used to typing "myair" and pressing enter now :)

Hi Paul

Do you have a rough time-frame when the multi-city booking tool is to be updated so you can book seat only etc? Also, do the call centre have the capacity to do it if I ring them and using airpoints??

Your help is always appreciated.

Yes - mine have all disappeared in cyberspace! Paul looked into it for me: If you have made a booking through "House of Travel" (e.g. the $99 special Auckland - Queenstown return the other day), it all goes heywire. It's a known bug, but a fix is apparently still weeks away. Most annoying, especially as I do not have any hardcopies of my boarding passes. I usually use the Android app, but that, of course, does not sync anymore either. :td:

I have e-mailed the Premium team and was promised that IT would fix my account manually within two weeks. We'll see.
