Can't make a seat allocation/request MEL-AKL 18 NOV NZ123

For reasons unexplained, I cannot make a seat allocation for my flight MEL-AKL NZ124 on 18 Nov. Call centre said they would put in a request, but I also note that ExpertFlyer is also unable to pull-down the current seatmap. Aircraft is B744. I successfully have seat 29C allocated for AKL-MEL on NZ 123 (same day return ;))

I wonder if this is a transition problem with the Seat/Seat+B/ etc fate structure TT?

Did you book thru NZ's site or somewhere else...On occasions when I have booked on expedia, I havn't been able to select seats.

FYI the specific error message we get if we try to get the seat map on the GDS terminal is: "ADV SEATING NOT AVAILABLE" if that helps.

brenrox. Nope, booked on Air NZ's site. Hence the confusion!

ExpertFlyer Voice. Thanks! I suspect problem at Air NZ end....new fare structure/product being implemented.

OK, problem seems to be resolved and I have access to the PE seating for my return as well.

Only PE 1 seat left, so I have snaffled that ;)

Upper Deck PE reserved for Works Deluxe pax, with 2 pax per 3-seat block and 1 pax per 2-seat block.

Is it just me or is logging into your airpoints account from the top right hand corner of the airnz.co.nz page take you to a completely different interface instead of myairnz now? Is this the non-flash version that people requested?

Must be you. Both methods sent me to the same (flash) place.

If you don't have flash installed, or have high security settings, then it reverts to a non-flash extremely limited version of the site.

I certainly have flashed still installed as I can see the myairnz.co.nz page fine. I'll just have to go that website directly now. I think this change coincided with Google Chrome's recent update to version 7 (I didn't alter any of the security settings). I don't have this problem in either Opera or IE8.

wijomas Oct 24, 2010 12:16 am

I use Chrome and see a non-flash version. Not the same limited non-flash version as usual though I don't think - still seems relatively functional.

Same and I'm using Chrome (some type of version 7). Flash seems to be working fine on Mozilla and IE though.

It looks like they're doing some updates on the "How far can you go?" page. It shows flights to Canberra for $0 (sadly not true ;) ) and a flight to an unnamed destination above the Arctic circle for $102, but when you click on it you end up with an even less thrilling destination-Masterton.

Ha it looks quite funny, just runs straight off the page. Long time to be in a 1900D!

I have got the IT guys looking into it now.

I finally reached 910 status points for Gold on Tuesday (02 Nov '10) and when the points posted, myairnz showed that I had reached a new tier level (Gold) and my membership pack would be sent out soon. Next day 65 points from last year (03 Nov '09) expired, and myairnz was showing that I needed 55 points if earned today to reach Gold.

Called Air NZ contact centre to confirm that I had indeed hit Gold, and waiting to hear back from them.

Wonder if this happens often??

Slightly different but i have noticed that my flights from Thursday last week appeared on the activity detai but did not impact my status points balance. I do have flights from last November but they should not have rolled off yet. This is opposed to flights Monday last week that were 100% correct in how they credited.
I have flights today so I will monitor these.

New look update for the grabaseat page. The "still cheap as" fares at the bottom today are:

WLG-NPE $201
CHC-BHE $246
AKL-WHK $308

NZ_Flyer Nov 8, 2010 4:48 pm

Did they confirm your Gold status?

wayoutwest Nov 8, 2010 4:49 pm

Maybe they making up for loss of fares on TT :)

Just got off the phone with someone who is going to make a few calls and get back to me in the next half hour (hopefully). Person I spoke with last week said the same and that they would email me within the next day, but that never happened.

Good to see a quick reaction to amend the grabaseats:D

Happened to me when I first qualified for NZ*G in pretty much the exact same scenario (minus the Grabaseat fares). It fixed itself up in a few days.

Sounds promising then! Person I spoke to today called me back to say that the person he needs to talk to about it wasn't working today, and he has had conflicting advice about the situation (no idea why?!). He will call me back tomorrow. Don't see why it's so difficult for them just to calculate how many points I earnt in the 12 month period I gave them. Want to get it sorted in the first half of November so that Gold will become effective from December. Otherwise it may get put off until January. Watch this space.

wayoutwest Nov 9, 2010 12:24 pm

Christchurch to Nelson $205 One Way
Christchurch to Hokitika $185 One Way
Wellington to Taupo $359 One Way

They are getting very expensive to fly anywhere - Still Cheap As

Seems they've got it the wrong way around, and showing the most expensive fares rather than the cheapest.

E.g. WLG-TUO is $359 on 21/11

lindsaygardiner Nov 9, 2010 12:39 pm

Also noticed this morning that all the grabaseat deals were showing as sold out. Then they changed to some sold out and others still with seats. And now all the routes have seats.

Got a call back yesterday saying that I will be given Gold as of 15 December. myairnz is now showing I need 98 points to get to Gold, so will be interesting to see if I do actually get Gold as I was told, or if I will stay Silver and need to try and attain Gold as per myairnz. Luckily, I didn't make it to the phone in time so I have the guy's voicemail message saying I have actually made it to Gold.

It'll probably update around the 15th of November or so - IIRC they do sweeps twice a month (15th and 30th sticks in my head) to catch people's status changes -- and the date of 15 Dec aligns with the 30 day changeover period.

Thanks for explaining that (read in another thread they did sweeps just once a month), sounds pretty logical, so will let you know. Just don't understand why myairnz showed "New Tier Level" for a day and then changed back to the normal "you need XX points to reach Gold" the next day. Definately very confusing, or maybe that's just because I had points expiring.

...nevermind - it works.

Something for you Air NZ Online that is coming up in the TT thread, and that is whether there is anything in the works to allow prospective passengers to see the seat maps for their flights in advance of making a booking. Certainly many of the US airlines (well UA and CO at least) offer this, and with the reduced Space+ offering on the 320s it sounds like those with flexible schedules might appreciate being able to take a peek at the type of seats available before booking.

myairnz changed to Gold this afternoon (this morning was still Silver) so looks like your dates are right. A bit annoyed the 4 flights I've taken in the last 2 weeks don't count towards Gold requalification, but oh well. Probably won't make it anyway, but every point counts!

Hi Top of climb

We have looked at adding seat request into the booking flow to allow customers to view available seats before booking. We actually looked at it when we launched our Skycouch seat, however feedback from customers as part of our user testing was that it was a distraction to the task of booking flights.

Seat request at the end of the booking and post booking through Myairnz or manage bookings is really successful and has a very high uptake.

I am sure it will be something we continue to review and revisit with our customers.

Thanks

Thanks Paul. I don't know how the experimental version was incorporated into the booking flow, but I would have thought a simple "view seat map for NZxxx" link that unobtrusively appears below each flight number would solve that problem - that way people don't need to click on it if they don't want to. Maybe something you and the team could keep in mind for the next review.

Cheers.

Paul, I don't know who your "user testers" were, but they clearly were not HVCs who want Space+. It's simply crazy to think it's better for your customers not to know what their available seats are before they book. Of course we want to know what the available seats are before we book. And for many HVCs, we are NOT going to book unless we can confirm in advance that we will get a decent Space+ seat.

serfty Nov 19, 2010 3:55 pm

I guess E/F is your friend here.

Not even using Travelocity can you dig up a seat map on Air NZ flights.

Aerosett Nov 19, 2010 4:15 pm

Noticed yesterday that the booking engine is now showing all inclusive prices at flight selection for the Australian website, rather than the base fare.
