I hadn't realised that - thanks.

Will certainly investigate ANZ. But weren't they the bank that sent some applicants away with a flea in their ear? Or was it another one?

Yet another benefit not available to Airpoints members in Australia. I am seriously wondering whether Air NZ actually wants its Aussie-resident customers at all (no Smartass card, no Shairpoints, ridiculous Airpoints conversion rates, no SC earning credit cards...).

Good thing the Air NZ Australia Facebook banner isn't still "We're glad you're here, lets be friends", because I might just have had to question their definition of "glad" and "friends".

Yeah I got dumped on by ANZ, but now ah ahh, depends who you know

Kiwibank said the following:

Thank you for your feedback, I will pass this on to the appropriate manager.
You will still earn Airpoints Dollars on every dollar spent, have access to Go Fly Thursday and when travelling a complimentary Koru Lounge passes for every 15,000 spent.

Told them pointless for a lot of people who have the platinum card.

I take it that SP remain allocated to the respective AP member's personal account?

The answer from the FAQ is somewhat cryptic:

Question: What happens to my Status Points when I join a Shairpoints Account?
Answer: When you join a Shairpoints Account your Status Points may not be used by any other Shairpoints Account member.

Hopefully I won't get yet another card in the mail upon joining this scheme.

And the 2nd party cannot be overseas even if the original family member is in NZ.

I just found out the hard way a potential bug in the system. I have ~200 points expiring in May and thought I'd spend them on a ~$250 domestic ticket, but Shairpoints deducts the oldest points in your sharing group rather than those closest to expiry. This can catch you out if one or more members has unredeemed points from way back but qualifies for no expiry through status or some credit card programmes. I will give them a ring and see if it can be resolved, otherwise, presumably, will have to get my fare refunded, quit Shairpoints, re-purchase the ticket, and then rejoin if I can be bothered.

Update: only way to do it was cancel, opt out of Shairpoints, and rebook.

Came across this interesting article this morning. If the woman was a Shairpoints spender why did she even alert NZ? Just use up the points and all this would have been a non-issue.

I might be wrong, but my reading of it was that she tried to use his upgrades (in addition to just the airpoints).

Got greedy.

Exactly what I thought. It's a pretty crap rule, but it is a rule so can't see what they are hoping to achieve by going to the media. Will be interesting to see whether they can board the plane or not though

Update this morning on Stuff.. Air NZ have seemingly let her use them.

The article was poorly written though, confusing the Shairpoints with RU/GE upgrades

I was always led to believe that the Airpoints were forfeited whenever a member passed away. As an executor to my mum and dads estates, when I called to advise Airpoints of their deaths, I was never informed that the beneficiaries of the estate could claim the points.

Unless I am mistaken, when I signed up my own family for Shairpoints, I was aware that points earned by a member were forfeited upon their death. I have recollections of discussing this with my wife, as she had grand visions of using up my points.

Like all airline programs at the end of the day it is loyalty scheme and Air NZ owns your points, not you.

They seems quite willing to give them out to a bunch of people I know, including my self.

Though the cards are a bit redundant if your *G or higher and fly a moderate amount or more.

I would earn 40 AP on almost any given week, and 300 in a week most months.

at $80/1AP. I would thus need to spend 30k/month to earn this on a credit card.
