Won't happen. That's a huge liability on Aimia's books that aC isn't going to accept without payment. And without AC, Aimia's in a world of hurt and doesn't have spare cash for that.

Makes total sense to me. I look forward to the opportunities AC (and its banking partners) give me to sign up to their new program. As well as any Aimia gives me to stick around, I guess.
I am also glad I burn my points. Why hoard a currency that has tons of inflationary pressures at the best of times?

Some heads are going to be shaking and papers scrunched at TD HQ today. What goes around comes around.
I hope and expect that Amex will reach a deal with AC for the new programme to be a MR partner, although in the meantime the foundations are rocked since the only solid 1:1 transfer partner is BA with a very limited value proposition. SPG will be the go to card......while that lasts

I dont know why people are happy.
When has any of this ever worked in favour of the customer?
Chance for AC to completely revamp and "enhance"... and somehow thats going to be good for us?
Keep dreaming.

There's a quote there, somewhere, right?
Burn burn burn. You'd hope at least points earned in 2020 would be movable or convertable. I wonder how this will impact any EYW announcements, well this and the fact that most non-scam charge airlines are not bookable right now.
The optimistic part of me thinks this could be good. The realistic part wonders how AC IT are going to handle it.

It may be a benefit in the short term as AC tries to create buzz on the new program, but in the end all programs are going one way. I'll take any positive 'bumps' where I can get them.

Any speculation if this will be better or worse for consumers. Some of the points needed for long haul flights especially business class requirements I find are quite good on Aeroplan.

Not surprising. Many here know that the contract is up in 2020, and we felt the launch of Altitude was the first step in bringing back the FF program into Air Canada's hands.
What were they thinking when they spun this off? Basically push your customers off to an organisation with a different agenda than your own. Of course it will end badly!!
The real issue for all of us if how will we be able to redeem these miles. I, like many others. have close to 1 Million AP miles. I believe that IKK for J seats will be more limited than before.
Ben and Calin talk about the change being customer centric (and financial of course - NPV of $2B). Ben- now is the time to adjust the J IKK availability so your customers can actually use some of the mile we have accumulated.

What, no conspiracy theories????
I'm surprised that no one is postulating that this is a great opportunity for AC to blow up Altitude and greatly "enhance" it.
It'll also be interesting to see what Aeroplan evolves into - first off, the name will make no sense anymore since it will have nothing to do with flying. This move is going to generate tremendous confusion in the marketplace.
From a business point of view, I really can't see the small Canadian market needing another points program either.
Interesting times ahead.
