Such that it is actually searchable text - one of the important changes to the Aeroplan program in 2019 for Super Elites:

New for Air Canada Altitude Super Elite 100K members: Complimentary changes and refunds
Beginning July 15, 2019, Air Canada Super Elite 100K members will no longer be charged a fee when they request a change to their Flight Reward booking. Additionally, these members will also no longer be charged a fee to refund their bookings. These fee waivers will apply to all bookings, including those made prior to the new policy coming into effect.

The world is going to end in 2020 so I think we'll be just fine.

(And good riddance, Aimia)

Bye, Felicia!

Of course they will - nothing to see here - but only on AC not Star and the basis on which they are honoured may differ dramatically if it is only through Market Fares. IF (and that is a big if) AC plans to continue to honour something along the lines of the existing reward chart for AC flight redemptions and continue to honour IKK for SE's holding legacy points, it wouldf be very wise of them to get in front of the story and clarify now, rather than keeping us in limbo.

If it is #1 , then they have already stated that in the press release; if it is #2 , then there needs to be an amendment to the press release stating such clarification.
They have said not #2 .

That is the burning question for any SE's with lots of miles banked.

AIMIA can easily recoup the losses by transitioning to a paid membership model. Just change the T&C saying that come Jan 1st, only paid memberships will be able to accrue/spend miles. Grandfathering will NOT be considered.

What DOES surprise is the number of people here that think somehow this will be a net benefit to FFers.

Exactly. There are lots of things that AC would do now if Aeroplan didn't charge them ridiculous fees for it.

I have no idea what the overall program will be, but you're going to see change/cancellation fees on reward tickets priced much more closely to UA's model (i.e. tiered based on status, free at the top).

rewards.
The 8% was due to a contract. I suspect you'll see a lot more seats available on "empty" flights, and a lot fewer on routes where they can sell them.

I've been doing that for a while

One thing I noticed is that they said you'll be able to use the new miles for things like upgrades. A lot of people have wanted that for a while. I'm curious to see more details as they become available, but as one of those people with a 7 figure balance, I'm also trying to figure out how to use my miles

Another option for AIMIA to recoup money is to slap their own "fuel surcharges" on every redemption.

It could be for SE's. Maybe agents will be able to open space on flights up again.

I know this will sound like my usual snark, but I seriously think the IKK scenario will be something like "because our new in-house program offers superior value and availability IKK is no longer required."

So glad to be rid of AIMIA and Aeroplan.

AIMIA basically committed suicide when they started stealing everyone's air miles for (read the horror stories) and Air Canada saw that Aeroplan was becoming a net negative to their brand.

Air Canada will be much better off without them!

AC has stated

AC has stated many things. Not all of them come true.
