Does that mean:
1) They will still allow AE points to be used for flight redemption on Air Canada; or
2) They will allow AE points to be transferred to the new AC Loyalty account on June 30, 2020?
If it is #1 , then they have already stated that in the press release; if it is #2 , then there needs to be an amendment to the press release stating such clarification.

That is the burning question for any SE's with lots of miles banked.

AIMIA can easily recoup the losses by transitioning to a paid membership model. Just change the T&C saying that come Jan 1st, only paid memberships will be able to accrue/spend miles. Grandfathering will NOT be considered.

Yes, it will be better. One neck to strangle. An example, AC could offer benefits like free changes to Altitude members that they can't afford today because AP demands to get paid full rate for every change. Expect small things like that, which are highly frustrating, to be improved.
I have no idea what the overall program will be, but you're going to see change/cancellation fees on reward tickets priced much more closely to UA's model (i.e. tiered based on status, free at the top).
What SHOULD happen in a new program:
Fixed mileage charts ( similar to present) with slightly more availability ( say 10%
instead of the current 8%) - but only available for redemption via points earned from
BIS flying.
All other points ( i.e. credit card, car rental, etc) -only can be used for market fare
rewards.

One thing I noticed is that they said you'll be able to use the new miles for things like upgrades. A lot of people have wanted that for a while. I'm curious to see more details as they become available, but as one of those people with a 7 figure balance, I'm also trying to figure out how to use my miles

I know this will sound like my usual snark, but I seriously think the IKK scenario will be something like "because our new in-house program offers superior value and availability IKK is no longer required."

So glad to be rid of AIMIA and Aeroplan.
AIMIA basically committed suicide when they started stealing everyone's air miles for (read the horror stories) and Air Canada saw that Aeroplan was becoming a net negative to their brand.
Air Canada will be much better off without them!
