It hasnt devalued over the last 3 years at all?
How many AE 'adjustments' have there been? I can think of at least 4 major ones since 2011. And of course, the addition of YQ.

But my point was, every program devalues, not just AE - and if you hold miles in only Aeroplan, you only have yourself to blame.

While it's hard to argue with your statement, I can't help but point out Japan Airlines' Mileage Bank's award between Japan and North America in all 3 classes have not devalued in the last 25 years. It has always been 110,000 miles to fly JL F to/from Japan and USA in 1990 and that is still true in 2015.

Just got the snail mail letter.

My question is can we book NOW at the old rates for travel after Dec 15?
If so for what period, up to one year in advance?

Another downgrade in my opinion from AE and AC.

Maybe airlines just think of it as inflation? Prices go up, so they think points can go up too.

of course you can BOOK now, at old rate, for whatever dates available
AC is like 355 days out, so you should see Sept 2016 availability already

Big questions is whether VOLUNTARY CHANGES after Dec 15 triggers the NEW rates or not

Smiley90 Sep 29, 2015 10:16 pm

Some of the redemptions are already insane - how sweet would it be, in the spirit of "keeping it competitive", if they raised some of the sweet spots but lowered some of the ones that are insane at the moment?

Take e.g. HKG-JNB:

AA/AS: 30k OW Y
Avios: 35k OW Y
Aeroplan: 70k OW Y....... that's how much a FIRST CLASS flight is HKG-JNB on Cathay using AS miles... :(

freeflyer Sep 29, 2015 10:55 pm

I just burned the last of my 30,000-ish miles on a Kaohsiung, Taiwan - Beijing r/t. EVA segments to and from China are in J with domestic connections on Air China in Y, but I'm okay with that.

Only $60 in fees!

As discount airlines increase in popularity in northeast Asia, in the future I'll now consider paying for premium economy or seats with extra legroom. To be honest, I'm glad to be done with Aeroplan and enjoying the freedom of the choices now available to me.

That said, having occasional "free" flights in business class was a good ride while it lasted! Hope others can book some good deals before December 15...

don't you just call up BAEC and book flights that JAL Transocean Operates? I was fairly sure that avios could be used on the three regional jal carriers.

NU flights can be displayed on Oneworld schedule under its own code NU, which means you can book it with Avios, just like Dragonair is a OW affiliate of Cathay under its own code KA. Not all subsidiaries of OW carriers are affiliates of Oneworld. Vueling, a popular low cost carrier in Europe, which is owned by IB is a notable and often misunderstood exception for example. Many people took for granted that Vueling is a Oneworld affiliate when it is in fact not, even if you book it under IB code. And if you look under IB's profile, the only affiliates that are OW are Air Nostrum and Iberia Express.

If you can't book it on BA.com, then you must call, in which case, BAEC agents would be happy to waive the phone booking fee for you, so no, you don't have to go to ANA to get to Ishigaki and yes, you can use Avios or any other OW miles without costing an arm or a leg.

Oh wow, I had no idea. Thanks for this.

How to check availability, though?

Award chart shows cost of 140k for this award starting Nov 1. Still better than Aeroplan though

Then so should do the miles we already have in our accounts, no?

So you think if we pay more for tickets, we should also pay more for the points earned when we go to redeem them? So essentially paying twice for the same thing?

http://www.ar.jal.com/ar/en/jalmile/.../miles_ar.html

You need to scroll a little further down: Limited Days of the Week = 110,000 for 4 days out of a week. The increase only affects the 3 other days of the week, supposedly busier time. As long as you are willing to travel Monday to Thursday for inbound flights to Japan or Tuesday to Friday for outbound flights from Japan, you can continue to redeem roundtrip F award at only 110,000 miles.

The easiest way is to sign up for JAL JMB membership, then you can check for domestic award availability using their search tool.
