Maybe we can start a new thread, similar to the map, LMU, upgrades, etc.

And for the record, my experience from yesterday is as follows...

Thumbs down

The button hole was a touch of class that set AC above the rest. I was on YYZ - PVG the other day and no button hole. I'm concerned this is another cost cutting measure.

You know, I never noticed that there was a button hole in the napkins... But then, I'm a heathen and generally don't wear shirts with buttons in them when I fly. (I'm that guy in J wearing jeans, a t-shirt and leather coat ).

I love it.

But seriously, I really do miss them. Based on the comments above I was thinking that it might have been a temporary thing. But I am convinced they are gone from rotation.

I have not seen one in a long time....

My napkin on FRA-YYZ a couple of days ago had a buttonhole.

Had them on both my YYZ-FRA and MUC-YYZ flights last week. Didn't have them on the domestic connection legs though.

Just noticed this thread - probably due to the fact that I flew LHR-YYZ yesterday and there was no buttonhole on my napkin! And none on the way over either.

LOL ... I'm the chick in jeans and killer heels and the leather coat.
Will let you know if there's any buttonholes on my YYZ-YVR flight today

Yes and no...

AA usually has them, but on two recent flights, I got a 'new' napkin that had blue stitching around the theoretical buttonhole, but the fabric was missing the actual slit or cut.

On a third flight, the slit was only a few millimeters long - maybe wide enough to pass a pencil through the hole, but not enough to actually place it over a (my) button. Looks like there was a bad manufacturing run.

I guess it is a matter of economy in these austere times, the small saving per napkin made by not having to machine in a button hole must add up given the number of napkins in circulation.

Napkins with buttonholes - fond memories

Northwest Airlines had them in first class - button the napking at your collar, and it was a great way to keep your tie clean, keeping the pasta sauce, salad oil, etc. at bay. Delta got rid of them, too bad, touch of class.

As if we needed this, but proof of complete inconsistency:

Flew SEA - YYZ yesterday. At breakfast I searched in vain for my buttonhole. But i happened to turn around and noticed that the guy sitting across from me had a buttonhole that he made good use of.

I suppose this is an issue that's ultimately been outsourced to the caterers who in turn outsource the linen to someone else, but it really would be nice to get buttonholes consistently. Perhaps it's time for AC to issue a decree to the caterers - "Thou shalt provide napkins with buttonholes!".
