So, Accor had sent out an e-mail back in May saying that Suite Upgrades not used as of December 31, 2020 would be extended for 12 months. The problem is that we're now 1 month away from the end of the year, and they still haven't extended the certificates. I'd tried calling in to see if I could make a reservation in January using Suite Night Awards at a Fairmont Property, but the reservations agent isn't able to apply them as they expire in December, and also doesn't have control to extend the certificates. They'd offered to forward me to the Loyalty department who controls the certificate, but apparently "Loyalty" is closed so it ended up at a dead end. Accor continues to find ways to make Suite Upgrades completely unuseable.

I think mine were extended to 2021 a long time ago. I can't recall when that was, but I don't have any SNUs in my account with a 2020 expiration date.

Yeah, they'd sent the e-mail out back in May, but both my spouse and I have Accor status and both of ours are expiring end of 2020. Unless you've used up your 2020 certs and only have newly earned 2021 certs, perhaps it's hit or miss on whether they processed the extension? Either way, I can't get an answer tonight as their "Loyalty" department that I got transferred to is closed, but the recording didn't say when it was actually open. Great job, Accor.

Yeah, mine show Dec 31 2020 expiry as well. Accor had sent out an e-mail ~ May 18 advising that they'd be extended 12 months, but it still hasn't been done, and I can't apply a SNU for January as my certificates expire at the end of Dec. :-(

No, I most definitely didn't use any of them in 2020. I've not found too many opportunities where there is any value! I think I currently have 16 SNUs expiring Dec 2021, which is more than you can earn in a single year, so it must be a combination of SNUs earned different years, all extended to next year.

Mine have been extended to 12/2021 a while ago (I don’t remember when it happened but that’s for sure some months ago). I have now 10 to use. Some were earned last year (so originally expiring 12/2020) and some were earned this year.

Mine have also been extended to 12/2021

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like some people have got theirs extended, and some haven't.

Tried calling Accor's "Loyalty" department again today at 8 AM Mountain time, but still goes straight to voicemail again. I find the Reservations agents are great (likely Moncton), but Loyalty seems to be MIA.

I finally got a call back from Accor's elusive Loyalty Department. The Suite Night certificates are only being extended for Platinum and Diamond members. I'd been a former Platinum but dropped down to Gold this year, but still had some Suite Nights left from my prior Platinum status, but Accor advised that they are not extending the certificates for anyone who had dropped down to Gold.

Ah, yes. There's that Accor loyalty-first attitude shining through again! Now, if they were smart, they might look at that situation and think, here's someone who historically has provided enough business to earn platinum. Maybe if we extend the certificates already earned, we might incent him to try to use them, and book a stay he might not otherwise have booked, and get back some business that has started to drift to other chains. They did that for Plat and Diamonds, so why not Gold?

It's not like the stupid SNUs are really worth much. Chances are, you wouldn't have found anything to book where they offered any value anyway, so nothing lost. Well, I suspect Accor has lost your future business, just on a matter of principle. Not that Accor is smart enough to actually see that!

I can't say I'm surprised.

Yeah, it's a bit odd that they'd extend certificates for some status levels but not others given that all status members have had travel curtailed to some extent this year, but not surprised as Accor seems to ruin stuff with fine print ("we're extending certificates....but not for you.")

And yes, I like the Fairmont properties, but Accor's loyalty program continues to push me towards other programs that actually recognize and reward loyalty. The Suite Awards are just the latest example where Accor announces something that sounds good on paper, but ruins it with so many restrictions. I'd tried 4 times to use the Suite Awards at Fairmont properties, but every time it was either not available, or I could book a suite outright for cheaper using a promotion rather than jump through the hoops to apply the Suite Award. So yes, it isn't a big loss, but I figured I'd keep trying to see if I could actually find a chance to use them.

Well I was going to do 3 nights at Fairmont Shanghai until my wife decided she did not want to fly domestically right now. So I had 3 suite nights credited back into my account. Now I have 7 suite nights and booked the Raffles Shenzhen for Christmas. Now have 7 suite nights and probably will earn another 2 suite nights from our next and last stay of the year.

Not sure how they are going to dole out Suite certs next year but assuming that all the points from July 2020 and after count towards 2021 certs I could easily have 12-13 cert next year. I wonder when things get better if I can book a nice 7-9 night stay at the beach next summer.

I had a good experience with CS last week booking a stay using SNUs. At least this time, the offer was interesting and the agent professional.

Long time no post!

I finally managed to use one of my SNUs at the Pullman Tamachi Tokyo (quick review on TripAdvisor here).

Wasn't easy, they never called back at the number provided since we can't use the SNU directly on the website.
So I made a room booking (JPY 12,000, it was under the Accor Plus -40% discount period), contacted the hotel and they upgraded it with the SNU manually.

It a great hotel, the staff knew it was a small birthday party (small because of COVID restrictions) and was great all along.

1) One thing you might consider (it is hasn't already been said in the previous 20 pages of this thread) is that they taxes will not be applied to your original booking (JPY12K) but to the whole upgrade with a cash equivalent to the Suite rate (JPY 22,080) for a total of JPY 34,080. After ~20% taxes, the remaining cash portion is JPY 4,861, bringing 88 points only.

=> Make sure to book the base rate with Accor Points, especially if the suite rate is WAY higher than the base room.

2) Up to few days ago, I could see a switch in the hotel lists allowing me to filter which one had the SNU available.
Now that I renewed Accor Plus with a free night, I only have the Free Night filter, the SNU one is MIA :-(

Julien

PS: and this was my first stay to trigger the +15 status night fast track, for a total of 2 x 1 + 15 = 17 nights in one stay.

That's really nice. If a procedure like that starts to become more widespread, it will add some real value to the SNUs. I've found many of the hotels can't do anything with a SNU, and even at central reservations, only some agents seem to be able to book with them. My problem with SNUs, is that central reservations normally only seems to see a single rate option to use with SNUs, which is typically the full daily rate. If it were possible to make a booking, using any rate available off the hotel website, and then have them upgrade the room type, it could be like having the old Fairmont Suite Upgrades again (but for a shorter number of nights). You could basically apply those to any rate (with a very few exceptions, like the GRGD promo).
