EcotoneHR Most welcome,
Can't take all the credit as Goldorak set the bar high with his review but i felt it was time to inform the community about the hotel during the post pandemic travel recovery period with updated details.

As an IHG-loyalist i was pleasantly surprised by the Phoenix hotel and will try in the future more of the MGallery branded hotels.

Thanks for the review HadesNL

The hotel looks good. Quite similar with Hotel Majapahit (another M Gallery hotel in Surabaya)
Although I could say Hotel Majapahit needs to catch up with the maintenance.

Btw, I also like the St Moritz , the M Gallery hotel in Queenstown New Zealand.

Thank you for this great review. Happy to see that this hotel is still as great as before, despite the pandemic. I hope I'll return one day.

You deserve all the credits for your great review
And yes, MGallery is a very nice collection of hotels. I have been rarely disappointed. IMHO, MGallery is one of the best asset of Accor.

binman : glad to refresh your memory !

kaizen7 : thanks for the info that hotel Majapahit has now become an MGallery affiliated hotel! This is new to me.
I have always drooled for an opportunity to stay there when it was branded as Mandarin Oriental Majapahit but the price was very exoticly priced. Almost eyewatering ! Eventually it left Mandarin Oriental and became independant and that's when the price became more affordable.
We stayed in the heritage suite and it was actually quite nice. It impressed me how big the hotel was in grounds whilest from the street the entrance looks quite small and not in proportion with the amount of rooms hidden behind. Most funny thing is that when telling locals we would be staying there, everytime they would discretly ask if we noticed anything "otherwordly"

Actually our driver in Yogja was also a bit curious if we noticed something from the "great beyond" at the Phoenix hotel.....
Made a good conversation with my lads though whom are much into the supernatural and the Ghost Adventures show.
It seems locals are always associating older heritage hotels with additional "spooky" features .....

on a sidenote : yes the Mgallery St.Moritz Queenstown NZ is such a delight, walkable to town, excellent views, perfect ambiance

Goldorak : only because of your advice, we decided to give it a try!
We were looking for Yogjakarta hotels with windows / balconies for fresh air nicotine addiction and your pictures swayed it into a positive decision. We were looking at the Marriott and although new, after skimming through reviews, no mention of open windows or balconies at all.
And then the heritage feeling of tempo doeloe at the Phoenix hotel cemented the choice.
Glad we took the chance !

Both are "colonial" buildings..... Hotel Majaphit is defintly bigger in term plot of lands. This hotel was meant to be Sofitel Legend. It seems the renovation plan was not approved.

Well I stayed in one MGallery in Central Europe. Well it was ok but I think not as per my expectation for MGallery.

For my upcoming trip to Yogjakarta in November, i thought to give the MGallery Phoenix hotel a try again .

Only it is not an MGallery anymore
Spoiler

It is now part of the "handwritten collection".
Seems a demotion from luxury to midscale.
https://all.accor.com/a/en/brands.html

Anyway that won't deter me from staying, i am weak against heritage "Tempo Doeloe" hotels.
https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempo_Doeloe

I did remember the hotel was commited to a renovation, no idea how far the phase is, but i'll do some asking around what the timeline is going to be.
And in the inimtable style of Goldorak i'll do a review to update everyone

Stayed there a few weeks back, standards have dropped.
Still a nice historical hotel.

We took an option to stay there in April 2025. Note: its was not an option to use SNu in this hotel. Only the Grand Mercure was available with SNu.
we are curious to see your next review in this hotel.
