Lightbulb Update 2024 NOV introduction + history + VinoBar, Hotel's restaurant

And a warm welcome to Yogjakarta.
As promised my pictorial update on the current state of the hotel Phoenix Yogjakarta.
I've booked two rooms with connecting door. The types being executive pool view.
The twin room did not have a balcony, the king room did have a balcony.
The twin room has a couch while the king room did not.
Windows of the twin room can be opened for fresh air.
I've stayed at this hotel before and i can appreciate it for service, location based needs, price/value ratio & strong airconditioning

Some facts to start with before we begin.
- First, all the staff are incredible friendly and polite
- Second, a lot of them are from hotel school or trainee, so as they are on the learning curve, they are eager to assist
- Third, Indonesian owneress owns this hotel and https://all.accor.com/hotel/9239/index.en.shtml Royal Surakarta Heritage hotel in Solo City
- Hotel has healthy occupancy levels due to the focus on domestic meetings and domestic business groups
- There are foreigners staying here, mostly French, Italian, German, American, Dutch...those enroute /touring Borobudur & Prambanan
- It can be cost effective to stay here at around €39 per night with breakfast nett prive but as mentioned before, this is an older hotel not yet renovated
- Although the hotel switched from Accor's MGallery to HandwrittenCollection, it still tries to provide elite recognition to Accor elite members
- Inhouse reservation team is now located at its sister hotel Royal Surakarta Heritage hotel in Solo City
- Parking is free at this hotel
- Hotel does offer firm foam pillows
- Still has the drink Wedang Uwuh in the rooms https://www.goethe.de/ins/id/en/kul/kue/icp/weu.html
- Although the spa is an older facility, i'm most pleased to endorse the quality of the massages... i was bent like a brezel/preztal and now reborn
- Hotel grows some vegetables on its own rooftop garden as sustainability effort
- A small observance, branding is all over the place as it transitions from MGallery to Handwritten Collection
- French focus is slowly phased out, some senior staff can still assist in French, yet menus have lost French and are in Indonesian & English only.
- French influence however is still to be found, as for every lunch / dinner ordered at the restaurant, a complimentary breadbasket is served
- Although an older hotel, the thing that they have upgraded is the airconditioning unit... you can turn your room in an iglo with Fimbulvetr setting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fimbulwinter

And let's have a look at our experience mid NOV 2024
Spoiler

As noted upthread, this hotel has a lot of history ....
Warning major photo bomb, but all interesting facts and figures as background.

A quick glance in the meeting rooms.
Spoiler

As the hotel was/is French focused, it has a wine bar.Vino Bar.
This might be the coldest place on planet earth next to Antartica, you can sit here if you need to escape the heat.
Spoiler

Sustainability effort : garden vegtables.
Between the fountaincourt & pool wing, the hotel has repurposed its rooftop to commit to grow produce.
Herbs and veggies used in the restaurant meals are from this rooftop garden.
Spoiler

As we and other tourists were a bit lazy during our stay, we opted to take a couple of easy meals at the hotel.
Expenditure is EQP earning and can be put on the hotelfolio.
I know Yogjakarta has a myriad of options, we explored and tried them.
But sometimes when there was a cloud burst of monsoon rain, it's just easy to stay cocooned at the hotel.
The menu

And let's now have a look at the rooms

Thumbs up Transport options + Poolside & conclusion

In Indonesia one can make use of many transportation apps
Gojek : https://www.gojek.com/en-id
Grab : https://www.grab.com/id/
Maxim : https://id.taximaxim.com/en/2093-jak...-a-taxi-online https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxi_Maxim
Or traditional taxi service by BlueBird
https://www.bluebirdgroup.com/product/taxi-service

But the hotel also offers transportation options

And yes, everyone's favorite escape from the sun and touring .... the pool.
One can swim 24/7 and it is very atmospheric for photogenic endeavours.
