Hi all, sorry to revive this thread. Its gonna be my first trip to Sydney after at least 6 years and need some help.
I'm considering between the Pullman Sydney Hyde Park, Mercure Sydney and Novotel Sydney Central. As the hotels are near Central Train station, these are the few I am considering. Has anyone stayed at these hotel's recently and if so, how was your stay. How is their recognition of LeClub status and condition of hotel?

I would not say the Pullman is near Central, its a good 10-15 min walk up hill to get to it. I am not sure I would be staying near Central anyway if it were me. The Pullman is the old Marriott and quite nice but dated, with the added benefit of the lounge. My two go to properties in Sydney are both the old Quay properties, being Quay West and Quay Grand. The Mecure is popular with tour groups and again is tired while the Novotel I have not stayed, it too is old, as it was formerly the Citygate.

I'd stay at the Pullman if the price is ok. It has had a renovation - a few years ago - but is quite a nice hotel, great platinum recognition and the lounge is pretty good. Much better than the other Accor hotels and not a far walk from Museum train station.

I haven't stayed at the Pullman Hyde Park yet but I can't speak highly enough of the hotel staff, who looked after my mother when she stayed there twice in the past 18 months to undergo skin cancer surgery at a nearby clinic. My mother and her older sister flew down to Sydney on both occasions and needed to have flexibility to extend their stay at short notice depending on the outcomes from the surgery. The staff held their room for two extra nights at no charge in case they needed to stay on, and on the morning of the operations they made sandwiches for my mother and aunt as they were had to wait around at the clinic all day. My mother is full of praise for the friendliness and compassion of all the staff they met at the hotel during what was a trying time.

All other loyalty pleasantries aside, it is situations like these that real people define a brand and retain the loyalty of its patrons, I hope your mother's treatments were successful.

The 'human touch' is more important that nice things. Yes, my mother is doing fine but will probably need more skin treatments in future - the legacy of growing up in western NSW and being a good swimmer.
