After we left the Deerland, we dropped by in this 1 small stall located at the left side of the road.
I bought "
Cendol" with Corn topping.
We were back in the main highway and went up to Temerloh. The sole reason for us to come here was to have our lunch with the most famous dish in this municipality, "
Gulai Patin Tempoyak". There are many stalls and restaurants in Temerloh that serve this dish. 1 of our relatives suggested us to try the Gulai Patin Tempoyak in "Kancil Raja Patin" restaurant which located in a secluded village and next to the "
Pahang River".
The restaurant is located just next to the
Pahang River, the longest river in Peninsular Malaysia.
Fish and Prawns that caught from the river were kept in these cages.
The
Gulai Patin Tempoyak is 1 of the iconic dishes for the state of Pahang and it is said that Temerloh is the place where you can get the most authentic version of it as the fish cooked in the dish were freshly caught from the river. The
Patin fish (Silver Catfish) was cooked in the
Tempoyak-based (a condiment made from fermented Durian flesh) broth which tasted sweet & spicy flavor. Besides Patin fish, you also can use Prawns, Crabs or Chickens to cook Gulai Tempoyak.
We also had a "Pais", a dry version of Gulai Patin Tempoyak where the fish was covered with Tempoyak and then grilled on the kitchen.
Besides Gulai Patin Tempoyak, this restaurant also serves other typical Malay-
kampung dishes such as these giant fresh water Prawns that cooked in Turmeric & Coconut Milk.
After luncheon, we left Temerloh and headed back to our home. Thank you for reading my short trip report of our visit to the state of Pahang.
