Update January 2016: Recent reports indicate the unofficial status match programme is running reasonably smoothly.

TK will only match Star Alliance Gold , Skyteam Elite Plus, Oneworld Emerald members, Emirates and Etihad Gold/Platinum and El Al Platinum/Top Platinum. Other, more exotic, gold card holders are out of luck. Please report your experience in this thread.

It appears that status matches are only granted once per lifetime, so think carefully before requesting if you might not re-qualify.

Please note that the only way to contact TK is now via the website

2/6/2015 new info from TK
We have received your message that you sent to our unit on 20 January 2015. Please be informed that when you claim your first flight with Turkish Airlines or other Star Alliance members to your Miles&Smiles account, your card will be sent to your address automatically.

On the otherhand, we would like to remind you that you can also get your original Miles&Smiles Card from Card Press Desk at Ataturk Airport International Terminal between 07.30 A.M and 09.45 PM. The location of Card Press desk is between A and B Check-in counters.

TK asks for Elite card scan AND Account activity within last 2 months, so it's best if you have some activities!!
Timeline can range from few hours to few days, be patient!

For those reporting successful matches, can you please post your results as follows so others can estimate their wait times, success rates

It looks like TK might also ask you for a scan of your Passport now. So if you are in a hurry better submit it right away in the first place with all the other documents.

Date Requested
Current Airline and Status (i.e. AB TopBonus, AA Plat, etc)
Information submitted (i.e. physical card scan, activity statement, etc)
Any replies received other than confirmation
Date Confirmation Received

Multiple reports from December 16th 2015 onwards state that TK now only grants a match to 4 months "elite trial", requiring 1 international TK flight during the 4 months following the match to extend it to one year and 15000 k TK status miles during that year to extend elite status to 2 years:
Welcome Miles&Smiles Turkish Airlines' advantageous Frequent Flyer Programme. Elite card trial period will be valid for 4 months. As of start date of elite membership within 4 months trial period one international Turkish Airlines flight should be realised for extending your card validity date to 1 year, if 15.000 status miles accumulate at the end of the first year elite membership will extend 1 year more and the total validity date will be 2 years.
04/01/2017 - CoweyB. There appear to be issues with TK automatically extending Elite membership for a second year even if the 15,000 status miles have been accumulated. Some FTers are reporting downgrades to Classic Plus instead

Does business class bonus count toward the 15k miles?

Lastly if my *Gold/OWE/Elite Plus is expiring Dec 31, 2016 when is the deadline to apply status match with TK, do they need your status to be valid for x amount of period?

Thanks
1. Yes.

2. Yes.

3. 3 months.

Cheers

I also wonder about that; it might be that they send the physical card only after you traveled on TK or other *A airline. If so, it is not quite clear if, say, you want to visit a lounge before taking the first *A flight. Maybe someone here could clarify that.

Sorry, can anyone clarify the following?

a. Can the first flight within the 4 months trial period after getting the status match be a non-TK Star Alliance flight followed by a TK international flight?
b. Can the 15000 status miles needed to extend Elite status to 2 years be a combination of miles earned on TK and non-TK star alliance flights?
c. My TK online account still does not show Elite status? Is this supposed to be the case during the trial period?
d. Will my boarding pass show my TK Elite status during the trial period?

Thanks.

Based on my understanding (currently I am in the trial period).

A- No. Must be TK flight
B- Yes TK and any star alliance member
C- Yes. It should show gold member in your account , if not that mean they haven't processed your request yet
D- Yes

As far as I can understand, the question was, can the first flight within the trial period be a Non-TK flight, and then a TK flight after that still within the trial period, would this TK flight keep you the match for the year, and I think this is OK, because all they want is for you to fly a TK flight within the trial period, but not that you should not fly a partner airline during that period.

Thanks. That was what I meant. Hopefully, someone can share his/her actual experience on whether this is true.

Thanks. Regarding (C), my spouse received an email giving her trial elite membership for four months after applying, but her online account does not say she has elite membership. Is this supposed to be the case? If not, we will follow up with Tk customer service. Thanks.

I got the email confirming 4 month trial, and online it showed upgraded to elite, but when checking in it showed up as classic. But I have yet to take my first TK flight.

You should be getting Elite benefits when checking in (extra luggage , lounge ...etc) even if you are still in trial period.

I have an upcoming booking from the USA to IST and it shows I am an elite member (even when I am still in trial period). I called to double check and they confirmed my status in my booking is showing Elite

Also this is an extra information I receive the Batman Vs superman card that shows it expires @ the end of my trial period (Elite status card) and I never took a TK or star alliance flight before.

meaning you should have FULL benefits of an elite member until the end of the trial period (will be extended with 1 TK Int. flight)

Does any TK flight between Turkey and mainland Europe is considered an international flight for status match purposes?

My understanding any TK international flight will be enough to extend it for 1 year.

So from Turkey to Europe is considered international and should extend your status by 1 year.

So just finished my 4 month trial (it was until June 4th) and I flew the TK international sector.
The website still shows me Elite but the expiration date is still 04/06/2016 (Which was 2 days ago...)

Anyone experienced something similar and how did you solve it?
