Comments: This was our son's 3rd stay as SPG Plat, 2nd award stay and he finally really gets what Mom has been raving about all of these years. Both the St Regis Florence and the Danieli have treated them like kings. Their suite is stunning. I think he is inspired now to go for 50 nights.

Le Meridien Cairo Airport
One night points (4,000 v the seemingly permanent cash rate of USD 140).
Upgrade to what I assume was a junior Suite ...bed, sofa, chairs, dining table. This hotel always seems to upgrade, although quite busy this stay. Often it's an exec Suite but I prefer the smaller one ( no need to spend 10 minutes looking for light switches to off).
It's a nice hotel ( a bit the worse for wear in places) and lovely staff. Forgettable lounge though.
Easy access from Terminal 2 via a walkway Egyptair, Turkish, Lufthansa), relative painless transfer to/from terminal 1 ( Qatar and others).

Comments: Tiny boutique hotels with tiny rooms—but wow, what a perfect way to use what they've got. It's incredibly unique, stylish, and 100% memorable. And the fact that it's such a small boutique property makes the entire experience much more intimate. The GM / owners' wife came over to introduce herself at breakfast, and we ended up chatting a bit. They themselves are big travelers and had some crazy stories to tell. If you stay there—ask her about how she ended up accidentally adopting a mongolian princess.

Property: Aloft Taipei
Date(s): 2 nights
Room booked: cheapest
Room received: no upgrade
Award stay: (yes/no). no
BRG stay: (yes/no). no
SNAs redeemed: (yes/no). no
Comments: No idea if I was upgraded here or not; the room felt like a base room. It's an Aloft so I wasn't expecting much. My low expectations were pretty much met. Only reason to stay here is that it's cheap with a decent location—but as usual in Taipei, the service sucks and you won't be impressed… Doesn't matter much; just needed a cheap place to crash.

Comments: Really nice location and lots of food options within a 3 block radius. There is a Cinemark movie theater 2 blocks away and a huge mall about 5 blocks away. The waterway is beautiful and I think much nicer tha the Riverwalk in San Antonio. The Westin Experience Specialist emailed me a few days before my stay and asked if I needed/wanted anything and I asked for a really silly request (my girls are about to turn 6-years-old next week and I asked if the staff could sign a birthday card since the girls like to collect hotel memorabilias... and sure enough, there was two awesome birthday cards that had at least 20 signatures each when I checked in my room). I did mention I'd really appreciate it, if they would consider upgrading me for a suite, if it was available. The specialist mentioned that a lot of Platinums stay there for business but they would try, especially for those that respond their email inquiry.

Property: US Grant Luxury Collection
Date(s): 1 night January
Room booked: cheapest
Room received: 1 and 1/2 bath Landmark Suite
Newly renovated-high floor
Award stay: No
BRG stay: No
SNAs redeemed: Yes
Comments: We have probably stayed at this hotel over a dozen times since it opened- and have been upgraded each stay (3 times to the Presidential Suite). We love the Grant- and find the service to be top notch here at every level. I wondered if I was squandering an SNA here, but ended up happy I decided to redeem it- a huge conference filled the hotel and they were walking guests the night before we arrived. We love the renovations- the rooms are beautiful and even more comfortable and they have upgraded the guestroom tech with multi charging stations.

Comments: Staff was very kind. I don't know if there is a normal valet service but since I only had the car for another few hours, they said they just take care of it until I had to return it.

Property: Four Points by Sheraton Kuwait
Date(s): January 13th-14th, 2017
Room booked: Classic Room
Room received: Junior Suite
Award stay: No
BRG stay: Yes
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: Booked a Classic Room and was initially upgraded to an 8th floor Superior Room in the East [new] Tower. Inquired about suites and was offered a Junior Suite on the 9th floor in the West [older] Tower; plenty of space in a separate living room, corner bedroom and two bathrooms. Although the West Tower opened in 2003/4 and is a bit dated in decor, everything is holding up exceptionally well and the service is excellent all around - what other Four Points around the world has embroidered bathrobes/slippers and nightly turndown service? The hotel is very well-run and comes recommended on all counts.
