Post The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok

Property: The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok
Date(s): January 2016 (1 night)
Room booked: Deluxe Room
Room received: Westin Executive Club Room
Award stay: No
BRG stay: Yes
SNAs redeemed: N/A
Comments: I was pre-upgraded to a Deluxe Suite the night before arrival. However, during check-in there were no Suites available (they were not even on sale as well). Was brought to the Executive Lounge for check-in. The lounge was pretty small btw. There's no difference between the Club room and the Deluxe room I believe except that the Club room was on the Executive floor.

There is no such thing as a "pre upgrade". I wish people on this forum would not use that term as it's not an accurate description of what has really taken place. You saw a advance room allocation, period.

When people [not singling out lcpteck] use the term "pre upgrade" it has the potential to set unrealistic expectations that carry over to check-in.

Staying here briefly before going to another resort where we have an over water villa booked, so to get an unexpected upgrade here to over water bungalow was a bonus!

Comments: Great to be back after a disappointing stay at the Hyatt. In addition to the towel elephant on the bed, they had written "spg" with orchid petals. How cool is that? ^^^

Not to go off topic. Sounds like New Year should be a FT get together in Thailand. Ill post my Royal Orchid stay tomorrow.

Love the Hua Hin Sheraton. Headed to the Pattaya Sheraton Friday.

Best of upgrade luck in 2016.

As opposed to the use of the term "pre upgrade", IMO it is much more likely that the unrealistic expectations are a result of being able to see the, using your words, "advance room allocation" on the website when reviewing one's reservation.

Really? It just seems based on conversation here people believe they were upgraded prior to checking in and when they arrive and they aren't they get upset.

Why is there no such thing as a "pre-upgrade" ? I have been upgraded in advance before, I have booked standard rooms and a few days before I arrive, they change my reservation to deluxe suites on the spg website. Is this not a pre-upgrade?

Until you actually check-in, this can change. No complimentary upgrades are settled until that point in time.
