Just cancelled my 5 night point reservation at Westin Kyoto booking and moved to this hotel instead. Even without "standard rooms" this is a spectacular deal. I am glad this is not an "all suite" hotel, or the redemption would be as ridiculous as the Cat 6 (soon to be 7) W Koh Samui or some other hotel.

The premier room - booked w/ customer service - is only 21500 points per night, vs the 20000 for a standard cat. 6. For 1.5k/night more, happily pay to get a room here. Going rate is something north of $800USD a night. Will report back after the stay.

Properties like this makes SPG awesome!

I'm not so sure one would what five nights at this type of hotel (dinner included versus exploring different restaurants most nights) or this location in Kyoto, but one or even two nights would be great experience.

Hi 3rdworldresident,

You are correct. Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is currently a Category 6 hotel.

I think staying at most 2 nights there is enough already.
BTW, booking Premier room means, including breakfast/dinner?

I hope it will not become a category 7 property soon.

For this type of Japanese hotel, I would assume that all room rates include breakfast and dinner, served in the room.

Not really. Onsen hotel, you are right, they provide breakfast + dinner for each night of stay in general, but it also depends on location. For some location that don't have other restaurant nearby, then they have to put this into package (otherwise what can guest do without complimentary meals?), AFAIK, Arashiyama is not such kind of place, so I would like lurker to confirm about it.

My understanding is that there is an opening special where breakfast and dinner is provided, but it does not apply to award bookings.

There may be a provision to include meals (either paid by cash, credit card or Instant Award) for award bookings after the opening special expires, but the details have not yet been finalized.

Currently only Superior and Deluxe Rooms are available and sized at 506-517 sq ft / 47-48 mē.

Deluxe Rooms apparently comes with the following in-room features:
Private Hot Spring
Private outdoor hot tub

Pricing sure is high, guess I'll stick with the Westin when in Kyoto.

SNAs at this location??

I have 5 nights booked in May under the "upgraded" 21,500 point rate. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any specific information regarding room types that will be available. Will there be suites available for SNAs? Maybe lurker can shed some light on this...

Thanks!

Suite Night Awards will be possible at this property. The suite type choices are Aka Suite and Togetsu Suite.
