I'm here now on the $99 Travelzoo rate. I got in early Sunday (June 26), arriving at the hotel at about 10:30 a.m. There were no rooms available, so I left my bag at the baggage check and walked around. The area (to me) is a little grungy, but lots of people were about (and one rat a few near an old building a few doors down the street. It is near two subway stops (Hoyt Street and Jay Street-Metrotech) (both within 5 minutes walking).

After lunch and coming back to the hotel about 12 noon, there were still no rooms, so I went in to Manhattan to do some research at the Public Library. Got back to the hotel about 5:30, and was put in my requested type of room. As a SPG Gold member, I got two cards for a hot drink at the little food area next to the front desk. I was able to wangle a cold drink instead.

The room is fine, and my view is in a nice direction (west), though the two windows don't give me a panoramic view (the large TV screen is between the windows.

The ice machine is in the basement. Being on a high floor and getting ice is a problem. But, how often does somebody want/need ice?

The air conditioning is loud.

If I were on my own, and the rate was comparable to what I paid, I might come back.

Just completed a weekend stay here.
Great little property and right next to the Sheraton Brooklyn.

+Near the 2/3, A/C/F, and R subway stops
+Free wifi in lobby, ethernet cnxn in room
+Typical Aloft setup - nice shower, etc
+2 free hot bev coupons for Gold/Plat (1 per day, I think)
+A/C works very well

Can't really think of negatives here.. not too much to eat in the area, unless you like being adventurous. There's a deli on the corner with sandwiches and soda.

As a Plat, I rec'd 4pm late checkout w/o a problem.

Grand Opening special gone?

I've been trying to book their grand opening special (3x pts, drink, movie and $10 food credit) on different dates and they all came up empty. Anyone having same issue? I wonder if they discontinued the promo

I've been practically living at this property for the past 3 months. Yes there are a number of suites available, but only a handful.

The suite is basically the same size as 2 rooms combined. In addition to the standard room setup, there's a separate couch, 2 side tables, and an extra bench underneath the TV.

Also, there are 4 rooms with a small terrace where you can step out and catch some fresh air.

Pluses:

Very friendly and helpful staff - going out of their way to make your stay comfortable.

All rooms have a mini-fridge in the room, in addition to 2 bottled water free each day.

WXYZ - probably the cheapest drinks in the area. $5 for beer, $6-7 for a glass of wine, and $7-9 for cocktail. Plus speedier service than the bar at Sheraton.

Pet friendly hotel - I have my 2 dogs here frequently

Comfortable room - plus size shower and Bliss products ROCK!

Location - OK it's not the best part of Brooklyn. But it's close to most of the subway lines (2/3/R within 1 block, A/C/F/4/5/6 within a 5 minute walk). AND now it has a Shake Shack nearby.

Minuses:

High floor rooms- while you get the great view, it's also close to the club upstairs. There are reports that it might get loud, and they typically pre-block platinum guests on the lower floors for that reason.

Typical aloft room - with the "cheap chic" design, it's not for everyone. Granted, it's comfortable, but some people want to take a bath, and you can't do that when it's shower-only.

Air conditioning - it can get erratic and turns on/off on its own, even when you try to control it using the thermostat.

Limited food/restaurants - there are *some* food selections in the pantry area, and you can order "room service" (read: takeout) from Sheraton. Still, not many good choices either at or near the hteol. Although, good alternatives are available via delivery services (Seamless, Grubhub).

Platinum amenity - only 250 points as brand standard.

To revive a dormant thread:

I'm staying at the Aloft Brooklyn later this week and was curious as to how safe the immediate neighborhood is? I might be out late (1/2am) some nights and will be taking the subway. Anyone have any thoughts on if walking from the nearest subway stations should be safe at that time of the day or if I would be better off taking a cab?

Disagree. No problem with walking back from the subway stations late at night. Now, if you're a woman by yourself, that may be different, but I did not have any issues.

Same here. I didn't find the area to be that bad, to be honest.

If you are able to take the A/C Line to the Jay Street subway stop and exit at Myrtle Promenade (the stop by the TKTS booth), the walk to the hotel is mostly through a well-lit modern office park complex (Metrotech). I think there is an exit at the Jay Street stop that puts you even closer to the hotel on Willoughby Street, but the immediate sourroundings are a little more sketchy (although it would most likely be fine with a group of 2 or more).

I smell shenanigans

Attempted to book using points. According to the website there are two room types, aloft room and aloft suite. Aloft room is avail but points stay is not, so I called Plat line who told me there is an aloft traditional, aloft deluxe and aloft suite. Can anyone or any of the lurkers confirm this is true or if the hotel is trying to get out of giving up a 500 dollar night for 7000 points

I can confirm that there are traditional, deluxe, and suite room types at this particular Aloft. The traditional room types would be the only ones selected for Free Night Awards.
