Canceled
So my booking is canceled now.
My account has no points anymore and my booking has a red cross (canceled).
My friends account still untouched.. But I guess its just a matter of time
Ps: they canceled my room at the Tryp Madrid Airport - which costs around 40eur a night, so they really into it..

My points were still there. I made a speculative booking at at Meliá Caribe Tropical All Inclusive for a long weekend in the fall. Came to to $288.70 for 3 nights - and includes a bus transfer from the airport.
If anyone else is based in the US, and is thinking of a cheap long weekend using this deal, there's a Cozumel property that looks good, and the Nassau hotel is cheap (though the rate doubles if you go the AI route, and excludes a $40 daily resort fee.)
I'm curious how everyone else is taking advantage of this deal.

Also, I did not use the discount code that came in my confirmation email. I played around with hotel options and dates a lot, and the coupon code seemed to make no difference to the price of my bookings. Not sure if that's the case all around, or just for my particular bookings. After all the time I spent on this, I still don't understand how the cash and points algorithm works.

I was planning to use this on a trip for 1 night but then I saw that the properties at 12k points were not to the quality enough of staying (<60€), and the 4-5 star properties were too expensive (I could get some 60-70€ off) compared to competitive alternatives.
And later as people report here cancelled reservations I just left my points as time-wasted excercise
EDIT: Conclusively - good marketing by Melia? Yes, now I know about them. No, now I know that they aren't really the chain for me
