Park Inn by Radisson - San Jose, Costa Rica for $35.17/night or much less

Looking through hotels for San Jose, Costa Rica and noticed a currency error that could be very advantageous for Club Carlson members.

There is a Park Inn by Radisson opening in February 2013, that currently has rates for 5,000 points plus 87.00. But the 87.00 is not in $, but in CRC, meaning it is 5,000 points plus 17 cents! Since you can purchase 5,000 Gold points for $35, this deal could be $35.17/night. Or if you have 5,000 Club Carlson points, you could get this for 17 cents/night.

The first available date I could find was 2/20-2/21. Note that the other hotels are points + USD.

The hotel is:
Park Inn by Radisson San Jose, Costa Rica
Ave 6, Street 28, San Jose, 497-1007 | (506)225-71011

Good deal, but a reduction from 15K to 5K isnt out of line compared to some of CCs promos. Like the chainwide 9K off one year ago. This is a opening promo

As such, would be honored^

OK, received my e-mail confirm
and the points are already deducted from my account.

subtotal: 261.00 CRC Plus 15,000 Gold Points Plus applicable Fees and Taxes *
Rate Type: Club Carlson-Points+Cash-King Guest Room
Mon Apr 22 2013 - Thu Apr 25 2013 (3 Nights)
1 King Bed. Non Smoking

Mon Apr 22 2013 87.00 Costa Rican Colon (CRC) Plus plus Tax for 1 night
Tue Apr 23 2013 87.00 Costa Rican Colon (CRC) Plus plus Tax for 1 night
Wed Apr 24 2013 87.00 Costa Rican Colon (CRC) Plus plus Tax for 1 night
* Estimated Fees: 33.93 CRC
* Estimated Taxes: 0.00 CRC
* Estimated Total Price: 294.93 CRC
15,000 total Gold Points will be deducted from your account.

I thought a minute, and booked a room for 8 nights over Christmas 2013.
It confirmed also, but in big red ink it said
one night was FREE because of my Carlson VISA !
So this makes the "promo price" more "promo".
And even cheaper if you break it doen to shorter segments.

...One last thing... the taxes, as outlined in the confirm e-mail...
for the 8 nights.... computed to be precisely CRC 0.00.
Actually this may be due to "taxes" vs. "fees",
haven't quite figured it out.

edit again:
I had mistakenly selected the 15K points per night instead of C+P.
Fixing that now !
I will just have to pay those CRCs.
I have some left over somewhere here at home... :")

It confirmed also, the point deduction should be 120,000 points.

This is the moment when I wish that I participated in any of the past Club Carlson promos and I lament the fact that US Bank simply would not approve my recent Club Carlson credit card app. I have zero points and would have enjoyed this hotel without needing to purchase points! Might purchase them anyway (but this is a maybe, because my booking will be speculative; I may not travel to SJO during those potential dates, so I wouldn't want to fork over the $$$ when I could have earned the points later on anyway; plus, the points take 2-5 days to post, and who knows whether the deal will be available then?). Decisions, decisions!

Looks like the deal is valid all of 2013. Booked two nights in May. This location is actually really nice and is right by the main park downtown. Only stay here a few days though everyone...get out and visit the rest of the country.

When searching, suggest that you choose "San Jose de Alajuela (CR)" in the Destination dropdown menu of locations. If you choose San Jose or just type it in, you will get a red banner saying that there is not a hotel in San Jose per se. I am not sure where the hotel is exactly, but would note that Alajuela is the town where SJO airport actually is. I've stayed several times in a nice Hampton right by the airport. (I don't mean that this comment and the one above have anything to do with each other. I'm sure the Hampton's still a Hampton. Just trying to sort the geography in this comment.)

Awesome, thanks OP! All I needed was one night before flying to Panama and would have booked the Country Inn for 9k but this one is in a better location near the park.

Don't go overboard with the great rate, there is so much more to see in Costa Rica!

Interesting. Not seeing any availability at any rate before February 18, though they say it opens the 1st. Are we already at Pogo between 2/1 and 2/17? ("We have met the enemy and it is us.")
