Monterey Airport is a kick in the pants. Since we are right in the middle between Monterey and San Francisco, we have flown out of Monterey if there is a DEAL! Everyone but us knows everyone. It is all so buddy buddy. So small town.

So far, we are open for any of the dates. Thanks for putting this together.

Karen2 and Mr Karen2
The 2012 DO date was the last weekend in October and we definitely saw the butterflies despite the normal end-November peak. IIRC, deirdre got some great Monarch photos.

I'm sad to say everyone does NOT know (this) everyone at our little Monterey Peninsula Airport anymore. With flight and personnel cuts over the last year+, it's just not the same. UA just cut our once daily DEN service and the UA (SkyWest) counter is manned by American Eagle people! The SkyWest people KWIW (knew who I was).

Anywho, I am happy to add the Karen2s to the list.

Back from OzFest and after some much-needed sleep to nip the beginnings of a cold/cough in the bud, I am ON this and ready to roll.

All things taken into consideration, I've decided October 24-26 for the official DO dates.

bdnyc, sorry you won't be able to make it.

My contact at MRY, Neil Gabrielson, turns out to be a registered member of a certain frequent flyer forum, more a lurker than poster. Small world, huh? He's been very kind to speak with both private jet centers - Monterey Jet Center and Del Monte Aviation - next to the airport regarding possible facility tours.

Will keep you posted on the rest of our events as I work them out.

I've made my weekend hotel reservation at the Days Inn Downtown Monterey. Never been, but one of the past attendees stayed there and lived to tell so it can't be too bad. And the location is incredibly convenient.

Using this link from the Hotel Deals forum codes thread, 3 nights comes to $251.50 total. http://www.wyndhamhotelgroup.com/?co..._id=8000000066

If you're on the Interested list, I recommend making a cancellable reservation at your preferred hotel now. Monterey hotel rates are crazy high and even more so on weekends.

Great. Hope you can make it! Of all proposed dates, it's the weekend that's furthest from my birthday and I'm perfectly happy forgetting that I turn a year older.

Myself and +2 (my parents) will be attending for sure. I have a friend in the Marines who is stationed in MRY, and his brother (also a friend) will be coming with us. I'm unsure as of yet whether the two of them will be joining in the DO festivities, I hope they will. (My Marine friend would probably be able to join in for the dinners if that's ok.) Looking forward to seeing MRY and my old friend (with an added college visit in LAX on the way)!

That's great! I'll add you and your parents to the IN list, and of course the Marines are welcome to join us at any point(s).

Just heard about this at another DO. One of my favorite places to visit, but unfortunately it conflicts with a friend's wedding. Here's to hoping that gets "naturally" moved (fat chance, but we can hope).

I stayed at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands last Oct. Great place to burn your free nights from the CC sign up. A basic room was going for $500/night. The view is breathtaking.

A few years ago I stayed at Americas Best Value Presidents Inn on Munras. It was dirt cheap on an April week day and had a super comfy bed and pillows. Not the most central location though.

Had some great meals in downtown Carmel.

Wow, Monterey DO was mentioned at the esteemed BRT?! Thank you, CMK10! Sorry you (probably) won't be able to make it, italdesign, but let me know when you're in the area again.

I've updated the attendance list. Thursday is reconn day where I'll be speaking to a few vendors. Will keep you all posted.
