Should I be concerned that when I tried to link to BA, the amex website told me
We're sorry, your account has been locked due to an invalid Card Identification Number/Card Security Code being entered multiple times. We cannot proceed with your transaction at this time. For assistance, please call Customer Service at 800-297-1234 and select Membership Rewards®.

Much of the value of Membership Rewards is the ability to transfer instantly to a variety of airline partners across all three of the international alliances. If you transfer on speculation you are gambling that BAEC will have the seats you need, when you need them -and- that BA will not make an unfavorable change to their program which affects your use.
If you were to transfer to BA, how would you expect to use the Avois points?

Avios are actually quite valuable. Suppose you want to go JFK-LHR (a very popular route). On BA you'd pay exorbitantfees. Instead book JFK-DUS. You'll find an AB flight for just 20K avios and fee of $5! The next morning take a BA saver fare from DUS to LHR for just 4500 avios and very low fees. I'm going to jump on this offer.

If the account is already locked you likely need to call to have it unlocked.
If you have more than one card which participates in Membership Rewards you may be entering the details from a card other than the one selected. This process is one of the few times that American Express may use the three digit security code from the back of the card, verify you are entering the correct code.

Thank you for posting. Avios are by far the best value for my MR points. I use them for short hop award flights. Just booked a ticket that would cost $500 round trip on AA with 9000 Avios and the best part is the flexibility of the tickets.

You will get the points credited when you make the payment and the statement closes. So if you charge $10k in a week when you get the card, and the first statement closes, say, Jan 7th you need to make the $10k payment prior to the statement closing to get the points credited. As long as your first statement closes before January 31, 2015, you can make the transfer. I would say your chances are high, especially if you can meet the minimum spend requirement.

Just checked my statements and for me it posted the statement in which I paid the balance due after the minimum spend was met. So spent $5k in the month then paid it next month and MR points posted that next month when I paid. I think the key is when you pay.

So bummed this bonus wasn't around when I needed it, but excited that y'all can get it!
In May 2014 I closed my wife's Biz Gold card with 86K transferred 1:1 to BA and in Aug 2014 I closed my Biz Plat and transferred 118K 1:1 to BA. Oh well! 40% is such a good bonus! Congrats
