We will also probably need another thread on "speculation about what the new FF will look like".
With the opportunity to start from scratch and not allowing transfers, I would not be shocked if they were to announce a pure $$-based program rather than miles-based

Yes, it will be better. One neck to strangle. An example, AC could offer benefits like free changes to Altitude members that they can't afford today because AP demands to get paid full rate for every change. Expect small things like that, which are highly frustrating, to be improved.

I agree. I was thinking the same thing. They already have a system in place where they AP is paying market price for a ticket for flights. The set redemption amounts will disappear and it will all be 'market fares'.

I'm a non-status flyer, but I rack up Aeroplan points for a big splurge biz class seat for a vacation each 12-18 months I knew it was coming, but it still sucks for me because I generally get good value from my Aeroplan points.
Regardless.........Does anyone believe the ability to use Aeroplan points in the next 3 years will suffer? Thoughts on whether I should stop collecting (via credit card) sooner rather than later?

AIMIA always pats itself on the back saying how great they are at loyalty programs. But without Air Canada as the anchor, there will be major issues for them to try and continue anywhere close to their current levels. The redemptions beyond flights (and J flights at that) really have very little value. . As others have stated, just look at the recent struggles at Air Miles.

One of the major benefit selections for me as SE was the "double miles" to AE for miles flown. A benefit devaluation by default?

The issue is that there is x Billion points sitting out there waiting to be redeemed. Many, many people will now expedite those redemptions to get maximum value (ie before AP is forced into only a market -fare based redemption system. I believe it will now be more difficult to redeem over the next 3 years.

I collect/burn a Europe or Asia business class flight through (mostly) organic cc spend every 8-12 months. I am not planning any changes from SPG / work Aeroplan Amex / Alaska CC spend (and churn) for the next year or so.

Can't say this surprises me. Just glad that I wasn't keeping any money in AIMIA. The airlines' spin-off of "loyalty program" narrative always struck me as sort of a narrative rooted in peddling a sleazy, greedy approach under cover of watching out for investors and consumers.
