My wife's account posted after her purchase on 10/19 in a short period of time, however my order placed on 10/10 did not. She purchased a pocket guide to wine and received 50 miles. My purchase a wine tasting notebook received no hit. You win some you lose some, oh well.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but might be worth repeating since we are getting closer to the GS deadline. My purchase finally arrived and posted today. Order was placed on 10/13 but you can see below they listed the activity date as 10/25 (I think 10/25 might have been the shipping date). So if you're going to order something from them you might want to call first to make sure it's an item they will be able to ship right away. (Rookie10 my purchase was the wine tasting notebook as well, so hopefully yours will arrive & post okay for you, too.)

I bought the wine tasting notebook on 10/13, it arrived on 10/26 and the miles posted today 10/28. It looks like they are using the shipping date as the activity date as the UPS tracking shows the package started it's journey at 334 am on the 25th.

Yours is quite a similar experience to mine. Ordered on the wine tasting book on 10/17, called on 10/18 to cancel when new cheaper items were loaded, denied as the 'order is being put together'. Order shipping on 10/25, arriving and posting on 10/27.

Wine Tasting Notebook

Has anyone who received this item noticed that the catalog included with our order/notebook lists the price as $6.95??!! Was shipped from the vendor Wine Appreciation Guild. We paid $14.95 to Vinesse.

It appears Vinesse is intentionally jacking up their prices. If you compare some of these books available for 2010 GS, you will notice the unreasonable price hike. Also their Apron was priced at $7 when it first came out and quickly increased to $9.95. The Wine Cooler went from $9.99 with free shipping to $20 when they first sold out their first lot. Similarly, Trackitback last year had a digital product for something like $15 that qualified for Dividend miles, this year they still sell the digital TrackItBack but don't sell it on their US Airways landing page and effectively restrict that only certain products qualify for US Airways Miles. Under normal circumstances, these products don't really appeal to many of us and are hard for them to sell. As expected, they milk them while they can with the GS. It's all demand and supply. We only buy them coz we can get higher returns from the miles we get and these Grand Slam partners/retailers keep pushing to see what prices we will bear.

A buddy of mine who used to work for the Wine Appreciation Guild in S. San Francisco laughed when I told him this.

All their prices are jacked up because they know people will buy them anyway.

It's likely the same reason they refused to cancel an order I placed, which wasn't shipped until 8 days later, when cheaper merchandise hit the site.

GS is like a cops and robbers scenario. We continuously find ways to cheaply overcome the hurdles and the vendors are reacting in a delayed, but to them sensible, way.

NB: Not that I'm saying we're the robbers, but you get the drift.

Does this definitely count as a hit? I thought that you needed a wine club membership or something to count?
I need one more hit due to e-mails taking too long so this would be the cheapest option.

Yes. No wine club purchase necessary.

I've received two Wine Tasting Notebooks that are very different. One was hardback, with a good 200+ pages; the other is softbound & has only 50-70 pp. Because I received them as freebies from Grand Slammers outside the US (who needed a domestic shipping address to keep costs down), I can't say what price the purchasers paid for each.

I almost cried when I opened the box for my Pocket Guide to Wine and discovered the Quick Chill Wine Cooler

Since they've jacked the price of the wine cooler up by $10, I guess I should think of this as a $10 "bonus."

Order date: 10/25/2011

And from GS 2010 thread here:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/us-ai...am-2010-a.html

The wine guide book was $5.26 with shipping. Highway robbery with this year's price hike!

I know this is probably my cheapest hit left, but I can't quite bring myself to support such inflated prices. We'll see how desperate I get.
