I am always curious how people can have so many business trips planned in advance. Whether I have been 1K or 1P, most of my travel was decided/booked within 3-5 days of flying. I guess a lot of what I do is crisis management.

The zero won't be there long and I will be 1K again in 2010, but I have nothing planned beyond my travel in Jan. It is always too hard to predict work related travel.

I work for a pretty small boutique corp, but company meetings/gatherings are always planned well in advance, and certain client meetings/events are also on the calendar fairly early. We still book Y/B (yay for 150% and comp upgrades!) and occasionally cancel trips, but pretty rarely have I had to get on a plane on short notice. I'd imagine it depends on the industry.

I have always viewed the zeros as a challenge but in the last few years it has become tougher and tougher to fly UA out of NY. This year I have two possible challenges, the yearly challenge and then as I look at UA.com I see that I have 990K lifetime miles. It may be a challenge to keep flying UA very much after I get those 10K miles.

I have super-zeroes, EQM/EQS and my total miles are 319 - I unloaded everything by redeeming miles for award tickets at the lower rates before the devaluation.

Did I just make GS?
ZEERRROOOOO - tough to take that first of the year balance!
However, on my mileage summary page below "Welcome to 1K Only" webpage banner ad, it now reads:
"Ensure your Global Services status for 2009
Fly 50,000 miles on United® or United Express® in First (F, A, P), Business (C, D, Z), or full-fare United Economy® (Y or B) during 2008, and your Global ServicesSM membership will be renewed for the 2009 program year.
Track your progress by visiting united.com/gstracking."
While I am unable to log in to the gstracking website and the years are obviously mixed up, does this indicate I will get / have already received the GS invite for 2009?

Even more depressing is having them drop to zero before they post. I flew on 12/31, went to check if they posted today, and boom, zero.

Sigh.
At least last year's total brought me back to 1P -- barely.
