Something is going on. I was supposed to be in the upper deck for a ORD-NRT round trip in October on the flights that are now canceled. I'm now in the lower deck. UA, bless 'em, kept me in C without my having to ask.

My guess is that the upper deck is closed both for security and because of the slow traffic.

Don't think so. I have 6 flights before Xmas in 747s and all have upstairs seats allocated and all were still there as of Friday. Maybe above poster is on a 777 now?

OK I'll bite. There are usually two up there. So it is down to ONE for all those expensive seats in C? Simply don't believe that to be honest.

Actually, there are usually three (one hides back in the galley). I had heard they were going to two. But not to one.

The new timetable to 30 October is online:

http://www.uatimetable.com/United.pdf

Gone is HKG-NRT/NRT-HKG - which I have bookings for October on. More rearranging tomorrow now!

After I had just sorted the cancellation of HKG-DEL-LHR

I don't understand why the connection time-table is not updated.

How are we supposed to build up connections with wrong connection infos and a timetable that is reduced to direct flights only?

Yikes! This is one of the times that I am grateful I try to read this board every day.. just checked and my HKG-SIN flight in mid-October is gone, as noted above. I fly in the morning back to San Jose and I'll try to check at the 1K room in ORD (2 hour layover) and see if they're going to accomodate me on another carrier for that segment or not (this was one of the $517 SFO-SIN fares with the free stopover in HKG). I depart SFO in two weeks, so this is too close for me.

The revised October schedule was loaded into Apollo about 24 hours ago.

International cuts, effective 1 October:

JFK-EZE
JFK-GRU
JFK-SJU
GRU-GIG
ORD-AMS
1 frequency ORD-NRT
1 frequency IAD-CDG
LAX-HKG (shock!)
SFO-ICN
HKG-SIN

All service to/from DEL

I think I got everything that wasn't a seasonal reduction or cancellation....

There were significant changes to the domestic schedule as well, mostly reductions in frequency, although I did notice that LAX-IAH is now gone.

As the company is reworking the November and beyond schedule (much will depend on bookings in the next 10-14 days....), that schedule will most likely be changed. Notice that some of the international flights cut for October are still in the November schedule.

UA seems to be moving all thier Long haul operations to MIA. ORD-GRU I heard will be gone too. They are also starting JFK-MIA with a 763ER, probably to add some feed to MIA, even though the MIA flights already rely on O&D in the first place (and average something like 85% load, at least to EZE).

basenji,

As always, thanks for the time you take to keep us informed. Your recent posts allowed me to be pro-active rather than reactive and get things taken care of with UA to my satisfaction.

When your travels next bring you to Paris, feel free to get in touch - I'd enjoy buying you a glass (or several) of champagne.

The timetable loaded at UA is NOT 100% accurate please be warned. It shows my October 10 MEL-LAX (via AKL) flight to be discontinued October 6, but United here assure me this is an error and no flights to Australia are affected in any way. The SYD-LAX also looks like it is to be axed, but that is wrong too they say. Yes there are many cuts on many routes, but this new timetable is not accurate in all cases it seems.

Interesting. I am still able to book GRU-JFK and GRU-ORD on the website in Oct. and Nov.

I too have a confirmed booking GIG-GRU-ORD and United tell me TODAY it is un-affected, but I take the point, they MAY drop it soon.

I have an upgrade confirmed from a H class coach ticket. If they drop their GRU-ORD later on do they ordinarily offer an UPGRADED seat on the new re-protect carrier, who I imagine can only be Varig on this route?

Interesting! These cuts free up lots of 777 and 767-300s (well, 747s as well on the last three Asian routes).

Given the plans mentioned both here and on the PlaneBusiness boards to mothball some 747s and 767-200s, does this mean that the freed-up international 777s will start serving the Asian markets (SFO-NRT, LAX-NRT, SFO-NRT, etc.) and the 767-300s will start serving the domestic premium transcons (JFK-SFO/LAX)?

According to the schedule, HNL-NRT #827 is still a daily flight, but NRT-HNL #826 is marked X7. How can that be? Both are 744's.

I think I'm booked on 826 on a Sunday in March, actually, it's HKG-NRT-HNL on an award reservation. I wonder what they will do here. 4 F award seats for the family.

LIH Premier, I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in the UA online timetable (assuming that's the source of your NRT-HNL X7 info). Numerous inaccuracies have been reported in it. We know that UA generally dislikes doing less-than-daily flights (only a few exist in the system). Maybe wait a little while for the dust to settle and all the schedules to be loaded into the system and then call back Reservations?
