I would like to use some of my AC Aeroplan Miles for an upcoming UA Itinerary (this weekend!) AC is showing limited availability on UA for ORD-SFO, but it seems as though the flights are wide open for REV travel.
If I book an itinerary w/ a connection, will UA allow me to standby using Aeroplan miles? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

1K standby same-day on Aeroplan award ticket?
I'm flying tomorrow STL-DEN-YWG on an Aeroplan award ticket. There are better flights, leaving later & arriving earlier with connection in ORD that show award availability. I called UA 1K line, they cannot make the change, say I have to talk to AC as it's an AC ticket. AC wants $120 to change. Can I as a 1K standby for these flights without a fee?
I have an upcoming trip, CDG-ZRH-LAX-YVR, booked as a C award through Aeroplan.
Thing is, the ZRH-LAX flight (on LX) gets in at 4:45pm and the last LAX-YVR flight for the day (also, incidentally, with XF seats available) is 5:40pm, leaving me with a connection time of 0:55. Now, I'm not too worried about this, as I'm going int'l to int'l and I don't think it'd be that hard to make the flight. Aeroplan's computers thought differently, and so I had to book LAX-YVR the next morning at 9:28am on UX, thus leaving me to spend the night at the airport Westin.
If I end up in LAX after my LX flight, would there be any possibility of being puton standby for the 5:40pm flight, assuming I do indeed have enough time? Or is it only "same-day" (even though it's an int'l connection as part of one itinerary) standby that's available to me?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Going through LAX that would be a very hard connection to make. Your LX flight will likely arrive in the international terminal, and you would need to clear US customs and immigration before heading to your AC flight in another terminal. In addition, you will have to clear security again to get to your AC flight, and that terminal has one of the slowest security lines in LAX in my experience. Plus there is no priority lane that I'm aware of.Originally Posted by benjybl

I would stick with your existing flights and save yourself a misconnect.

Thanks so much for the advice. Don't know if it makes any difference, but it's not an AC flight, but a UA one (UA170)...

Doesn't change anything, you'd still need to clear customs, walk 2 terminals down, and then clear security again. I doubt you'd make it with an hour.Originally Posted by benjybl

standby on UA is same day only (CO is 24 hours before the booked flight)Originally Posted by benjybl

But as dyung mentioned there is not such thing as intl to intl in the USA and especially at LAX. USA requires full immigration and customs clearance even if not staying in the USA. So unless your ZRH-LAX flight arrives early, 55 minute connection probably isn't going to make it.
The standard I-I MCT for LAX is 120 minutes

Doing INTL transfer at any US airports with less than an hour is going to be near impossible. It doesn't matter you are on INTL-INTL (w/ exception NZ in LAX stopover), every passenger needs to clear US custom/immigration. Your flight arrived at TBIA and after custom/immigration, now you have to go to T7/8 and go through TSA. UA Priority line in LAX isn't bad but still long on late afternoon. Just FYI, AC is just as far in T2 just on the other side of the airport.Originally Posted by benjybl

BTW, just for my future reference, does UA has a transfer desk at TBIA terminal? If not, does that mean you have to haul the checked bags from TBIA to T7 and recheck them?
