The link to the press release has expired, but I think I saw May of 2010. Ouch ASA's performance numbers seem to me to be at the bottom of all of the carriers every time I see them.
This was all part of a Skywest press release extending their contract with UA, deferral of payments, and a loan to UA.

"ASA will begin operating as a United Express carrier starting in the first quarter of 2010. All of the 13 regional jets are intended to be in operations by May of 2010. SkyWest anticipates that ASA will operate these aircraft under a capacity purchase agreement, for five years, and it is anticipated that they will be compensated in similar fashion to the SkyWest Airlines current agreement"
Even sooner than I thought!

DL routes from ATL/CVG.
Expect many more RJs in the spring/summer as UA has no other option aside from greatly shrinking domestic peak season capacity without any spare mainline planes.

Wow. Talk about "full circle." The aircraft that ASA will be using on this route, no doubt, will be the same RJ200s that flew for Independence Air out of Dulles. Prior to that, many of you know, Independence Air was ACA, which was part of the United Express program until June 2004. Full circle...back to where they started. Dang...that's odd. When they start flyings, look for tail numbers ending in BR (Blue Ridge), which was ACA's/FlyI's call sign/tail designator.
I'll never forget an ASA flight that I was on a few years ago. It was running about 30 minutes late, connecting into DL's last bank of flights at ATL. Once we arrived, the FA blocked the pax from exiting saying she was waiting for carry-on bags to be unloaded. Well, duh, some pax didn't have carry-on bags and needed to RUN to their connecting flights!
After letting the pax off, the FA said that she didn't understand why they were so pushy! The FA didn't even seem to understand the basics of a hub airport.

ASA -- what a great airline!

They are pretty much the same. As someone who goes out of ATL a lot on business, I hate ASA. Originally Posted by milepig

I have refused to fly ASA for years before my hate-hate relationship with Mesa was formed ... they had maintenance issues for awhile back then, hopefully they do a better job these days but their rep is actually lower than Mesa. This is yet another move by UA based totally on $$s and nothing of quality, value or the customer taken into consideration Originally Posted by DHAST

Just extending the tradition of horrible UX carriers in IAD. Hey Mesa, you've got some competition in the race to the bottom.Originally Posted by zsmith2

Weird... the funny thing is, ASA being owned by SkyWest and all, how well perceived SkyWest is. (It's always had a stellar reputation AFAIK.) Are SkyWest's numbers where they are because their biggest hubs are at LAX (very little IRROPS weather issues) and SLC (which isn't that congested, AFAIK)?Originally Posted by GoingAway

So, why does one suck, and why is the other good?
