Semi-encrypted
That's true, but the data is actually submitted to a secure (encrypted) URL, so the only information that is sent without encryption is your Mileage Plus number from the first screen to the second screen.

I have SIXT GOLD. Whenever I go to book a car in Germany I find the rate HIGHER than the normal "internet rate" for US travelers if I enter my Gold number.
Try it - go to book a car saying you live in the US and get a rate.
Then log in with your GOLD number and do the same.
Rate is HIGHER because the discount is off the standard rate and the internet rate is even cheaper than that.

PS, OP, thanks for the heads-up. I've signed up and look forward to giving Sixt a whirl. I have elite status on Hertz, Avis, Budget, National, so not anticipating something earth-shattering, but there are a lot of 6t locations throughout Europe.

technically
technically, it has only been mentioned 3-4 times in the past six months, so yes, it is not a daily event.
As for the status, it means almost nothing. The discount, applies to the rack rate, or whatever the term is in the car rental world. If you sign in and put in your sixt number, and try to book a car, it will be between 25 and 100% MORE EXPENSIVE than just going to the site and having it show you the rates. Now, I have only done this for car in Germany and Switzerland, so I cannot say for certain for rentals on Tenarife.
As for the kiosks, they are nice, but when I arrive i ALWAYS do better walking up to the counter and asking "what can you do for me car wise" It does help to speak german, but not necessarilly. #1 1K GF has a differant viewpoint as to why we always walk away with a 545 td, or E350 td, when all I have rented is either a golf or a bmw 3 series. Last february, I had a 180 euro week, that I upgraded for 20 euro a day to a new S350, that was the best deal ever. Too bad there was snow at times, but we managed to peak out at about 165 on the route from STR to MUC. That last stretch is just a candy store, no question about it.
When I tried to book with my 1K Sixt card, I got rates that were 330 euro a week, for the same crappy golf.
So, YMMV, but just try it on the website, make sure you use two browsers, since they cache a bunch of cookies. The only thing I am not sure about is what value showing my Platinum card at the desk, in a caste system society. I might have gotten the S class for free, but I doubt it. I might have gotten a kiss on the cheek or something, or some coupon for a free beer, but saving 120 euro a week was more worth it at the time.
So iluvtofly, didn't see your post with nearly the same.

Thank you very much jason8612! I was planning to book a car for this summer out of FRA.
Would I get a better Platinum rate if I register me with a German address instead of my US one?

I'm in no hurry, but how long does it generally take to get the card, anyway?

The only thing that seems to be is that 1K (and, I am guessing SPG Platinum) actually gets you Sixt Platinum status.
For years now, I have been getting the benefits simply by saying that I am 1K. And--it's been on their web site for many years.
