What I would like to see is that this thread becomes a source of information again on the Chase Mileage Plus Visa cards. Since we know that they will only allow the promotional offers for first time applicants, then it is important that we can inform as many Flyertalk members about this and other rules, so potential applicants for additional cards may avoid unpleasant situations.

someone should tell someone to post it somewhere in bold

I applied on 12/29 for a United Visa Signature Platinum card using the link somewhere earlier in this thread, fulling knowing that chances are I wouldn't get the 25,000 bonus miles (I was primarily after the EQM) due to an old 1 mile/$2 MP Visa that I have had for probably five years. I received the new card about two weeks ago. Yesterday night, when coming home from a weekend trip, I found what I thought was the dreaded "no bonus miles for you" letter from Chase in the mailbox. Alas, upon opening the thin envelope, it was the 1000-mile upgrade and $25 off certificates that were part of the offer. Since they were listed among the rewards only available to new card members, I am now hopeful that the 25,000 miles will also show up despite the old pre-existing card.

question

wife has business card. If she applies for the personal card, will she get the dreaded letter informing her of no more bonus miles or not? Are they (business vs. personal cards) treated separately for this new policy?

post #122 makes me think it's total luck and that they may have tried to scare swarths of people but they may still let a few slide on by... Who knows. tell her to apply and see what happens!
i would think it's a dif product but Im not them.

Chase and 25,000 Bonus miles

I wrote Chase a letter on the online system about how I got an offer for the 25,000 miles and that I keep 5 accounts open for different businesses and they came through and reinsated the 25,000 bonus RDM's, after I got the dreaded letter. So writing to them may help.

I have found that writing to them on the online system is always better than calling, especially with EQM issues.

good job and good idea! as well I often find writing a letter rather than emailing is a good way to get a real response but in this case electronic DID work and so COOL!!

I have definitive confirmation that this is wrong. My wife and I just both got our 5K EQM today.

It's my second Platinum card, so I didn't get the 25K bonus miles (as expected). My wife, however, did get the 25K bonus miles (and the upgrade cert and the $25 voucher). This is her second card, though the other one is the one mile per two dollars card, so our experience might match notquiteaff's. Though the real reason may be that they messed up her name (even though they have the right MP account number and SS number).

good to know errors can work in our favor and that loopholes can be had!! as well, I see a good reason to have a hyphentated last name because you could sign up as one or both or the other and get maybe 3 cards!! woo hoo!

Is it safe?

is anything>? All I know is that AMEX made it so my wife's first part of hyphenated last name became just the initial and it was typed on the card as if that were just her middle initial.

example:

Jane Smith-Doe
becomes
Jane S Doe

It should work as long as the credit check registers a match.

CPMaverick Jan 30, 2007 10:23 pm

I also used the Chase secure message center to ask them about my miles.

I had a Signature Visa, they allowed me to upgrade to a Platinum Visa and get my 25,000 miles. I also get the 5,000 EQMs. I didn't get a waived annual fee, but I only paid $80 instead of $140 since it wasn't a new card, just an upgrade.

Since I already went through the credit check and it's not likely I'll get this bonus ever again I'm happy Chase offered this compromise ^

Effective September 1, 2006, they no longer waive the annual fee for new cards, either. $60 is all you get.

I'm not a 1K and I never have been.

The T&C of the original offer waived the annual fee for the first year.

My question earlier,"is it safe?" was meant to inject some humor. I thought there might be a relation between your handle and the movie Marathon Man with Dustin Hoffman which is an awesome film.
