A pretty long discussion focused on what happened.

But to summarize what happens in the future do I understand it right?
  1. If you already have a personal card and apply for the platinum card that costs $140 a year, you now get 5,000 eqm but no bonus miles.
  2. If you have a personal card but apply for a business card, you CAN still get that full bonus (which according to my mailing is like 25,000 miles) once.
  3. The new no second bonus rule applies to a named account holder. The wife/husband of a named account holder can apply for their own account and get a bonus even if they are named as a secondary user on a significant other's card

#1. Not sure
#2.Yes, just did it. :)
#3.Yup, at least it worked for us.

I don't think there is a definitive set of rules that all reps. follow. Sad, but true.

Phil

that's cuz it's

(A) a credit card company. They OWN that particular conundrum of reality!

(B) has to do with miles deals, which is tricky marketing to begin with, but this forum has 129,000 members who still go for it daily :D

(C) it's got to do with United, so OF COURSE it's sad, but true. :D

My 5,000 eqm's posted this morning. My first statement since converting to the Platinum card closed on 2/1.

Nothing on my UA account yet, but looking online at the first statement for my new Platinum card, I see that I got 5,000 eqm's for the first purchase as well as 25,000 bonus RDMs. :D As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I have had another card for about three years (currently in no-fee 1 mile/$2 mode and pretty much unused since the end of 2005) and "only" got a 7500 miles when I originally signed up for that one.

Is this another way around the current bonus restrictions?

1. In March 2006, I applied for a Chase Mileage Plus Visa and got the 25,000 bonus.

2. In October 2006, I applied for another Chase Mileage Plus Visa and got the "dreaded denial" letter

3. I rarely fly UAL and therefore, I am not going to get any elite status. When I get to 35-60k miles, I use the miles to get a Hawaii or international FF ticket. I only have 399 miles left in my FF account.

Can I cancel my current UAL FF account and my Chase Mileage Plus Visa accounts, later start a new UAL FF account and apply for the Chase Mileage Plus Visa's and get the (20-25k) bonus miles?

wife and another fam member in similar situation.
she has 35k and other fam member has like 600 miles. he could get the visa because he never had one, except that he was once joined on hers!!

Would THAT matter??

And she wants to cancel hers because they just charged the $60 fee and so why have it now? She never uses the thing. You have 30 days to cancel from the date of the annual fee posting to your account, and if you do this on time you do not have to pay it --according to CS.

So when, if she were to wait an appropriate amount of time, could she get any new sign on bonus?

I mean, with Citi checking for 10k AA miles promo, they actually said you had to have NEVER had any citi checking account product before and they actually meant it. Even from the 1980s, people who tried to get the promo were getting denied. Of course some got thru but that was one extreme case.

What, then is the norm, and what will Chase be now>?

I did however get the 5K EQM's for signing up.

They have posted to my account and Chase actually helped me move them to 2007.

Weird

Has anyone called and gotten an angel to reinstate the RDM's?

I called yesterday and had an angel reissue TWO upgrade certs that had expired. (Anyone notice that they only give you 6 months to use them now) and they waived two $14.95 fees for paying on the due date.

I charged over $250,000 plus on all my Chase accounts. i'm going to try to get my offer bonus miles reinstated.

Where did you call to get the upgrade certs reinstated? United or Chase? I would appreciate more info about that. Mine expired a while back, and I thought that was that.

I just upgraded my non-Platinum card and I think that one also comes with 5000 EQM, though after reading this thread I am not sure. Anyone know for sure what's possible here?

thanks!

In the summer and fall of 2006, Chase was sending out 1000 mile upgrade cert that expired on Novemebr 30, 2006. These certs should normally have a one year validity from the date of issue. If you have upgrade certs that only gave you a few months to use them, you should send Chase a message through the secure message center on their website, as this is usually the most effective way to get Mileage Plus issues resolved. Then explain to them that they sent you an upgrade cert that had an insufficient amount of time on it to use, and then you request a new one.

I can confim that. I got the 25k miles from my new Platinum Business card yesterday.

The only problem is that I did not realise that Chase had opened a new Mileage Plus account for me, so now I have two accounts with mileage balances in them.

Can I get them amalgamated into one account?

a.

Marathon Man Feb 9, 2007 1:46 pm

amalgamated...

wow I love that word!!

Anyway, i have not seen THAT problem since my early days with CO when I too had two accounts. At first they got mad and wanted to delete one of them. I would procede with caution, indicating your understanding of how you can get two cards with two dif bonuses and so you are not churning. Then point out the two account thing as their administrative mistake and not your own. Talk about conjoining them a lot... I hope it works for you! It should but we dunno. Love to hear what happens!

Yes. The quickest way is to email Customer Service from the Chase credit card page. The same thing happened to me and it was fixed the next day. Just ask them to close the new acct. & transfer miles into the old one.

Way too complicated. See my post above.

So its Chase who fix it and not United?

Alex.
