SEA_Tigger, Interesting they boarded three meal options for C in your flight, whereas mine only had two (unless they did have the chicken, but I didn't hear it being offered to any of the passengers in the mini-cabin). Hard to believe all the F passengers ordered the chicken and left none for C...

Also, my salad was slightly different from the ones you and the rest of the folks on my flight had.

PS Flight 22 LAX-JFK/ Sat Nov 4 in C

We were offerd a choice of OJ or sparking wine before take off.

Print Menus were handed out before take off and then an FA came to take meal choices. The FA started in the back and worked her way to the front. It suprised me that she did not do it by status. But it had appeared that everyone got their meal choice.

To Begin:
A selection of Danish, Croissants and bagels from the bread basket.

Main Course:
Tuscan Frittata with Hollandaise Sauce

or

Fruit Plate

I had the Fruit because I had already had breakfast in LAS before my TED flight to LAX. The Fruit was ripe, and very good.

Prior to Arrival

Turkey and roast beef deli plate

or

Cheese plate with fresh fruit.

Walkers Chocolate Chip Cookies.

I had the Deli plate but just ate the meat and the veggies.

I had wished that they would have given up the fresh cookies but all in all it was a great flight and great service from the FA's

Besides the very same and also encoutered "serving mode 2" of the same:

No Champagne bottle on the cart, FA brings a glass from the galley, I taste it: This ain't "vin du Champagne" and ask the FA, who insists it is giving me the dirty look. Politely I ask to see the bottle. FA returns harridely replacing my glass with the new stuff.

I didnt realize the side dish was pilafthought it was just white rice. I had the fruit tartlet which was pretty good as well. Omelette was an omelette...

I'm curious if the arrival meal on UA828, which departs HKG 6:35 PM and arrives ORD 6:43 PM, is breakfast or something more appropriate to the PM arrival time? I've never taken this later flight out of HKG and I'm on it tomorrow. Thanks.

NRT-HNL (LD83-C87)

The Narita-based crew worked hard to serve the full C cabin in very bumpy flying conditions (the captain instructed them to sit down at least twice) but managed to do so pretty gracefully. Naturally, as soon as dinner was finished the flight smoothed out.

Not mentioned on the menu was a side of delicious, fresh ginger served with the appetizer. I had the steak, which was cooked to a nice, pink medium-rare. Interstingly, the Japanese meal wasn't identified as "Obento." In F it was - it's the same except for an extra appetizer item: tuna with wasabi sauce. Dessert was a pretty dry apple pie.

This flight was short - barely six hours - so the crew crept around with the breakfast trays so passengers could sleep a bit longer. Breakfast was pretty basic, but the fruit (melon, apple, orange, kiwi and a purple grape) was delicious.

An ad for Hilo Hatties (in Japanese, two free coffee mugs with a $15 purchase, a free package of macadamia candy with a $10 purchase) was inside the menu.

Don't have the menu with me, but I've flown this 4x in the past 2 months.

You'll get:

Preflight drinks
Hot nuts (usually)
Appetizer plate - most recently it was crab salad and artichoke heart (I think) and some salami.
Salad with Creamy something or Sesame Dressing
3 entree choices, Beef, Pasta or something else
Cheese plate or Ice Cream
Cold breakfast before landing

On the return on afternoon flights it is pretty much the same except before landing you'll have a choice of a cheese plate or sandwiches.

On the return on morning flights you'll have a hot breakfast followed by midflight snacks put out on a cart by the galley, followed by a pared down dinner - no appetizer and I think only two entree choices.

Regularly-scheduled changes?

Just some general questions:
Does anyone know if (when?????) menus are scheduled for changes, if at all? Is there a set time; i.e., quarterly, annually, etc.?
What drives changes? Customer comments, requests, cost , etc.?
Thanks!

And for those interested:

prior to arrival

Smoked chicken, shiitake mushroom and spinach pizza
Served with Parmesan cheese

or

Fresh seasonal fruit plate with creamy yogurt

Pizza wasn't bad as I slept the whole flight and was hungry. Served with the traditional breakfast croissant.

I am very surprised to see pizza on the menu. Can someone say AA?

(not saying it is necessarily a bad thing, compared to the crap they otherwise serve pre-arrival)

I was too. I've never had pizza on UA before this.

Thick crust, so more dough than anything else, but it was tasty. Lots of folks got it and all the plates I saw were empty.

And if you're a carb junkie, eat the accompanying croissant as well and you'll be very content.
