Hello Everyone,
Sorry for the bump.
FYI, you guys are awesome ^ ^ ^ I don't have anything worth giving (at the moment), except Gmail invites. If you don't already have it, PM me.
I have some more questions, if you all don't mind.
I am planning a trip, below, and I have $300-400 to get there and back. I need to be there fairly early in the morning on the way out, so not sure if that part can become a MR/SR, but the way back... Oh, the possiblilities! Actually, herein lies the problem. I can't figure out what to do, and I also can't find the routing rules on Orbitz.
Do you guys have any suggestions?
SBA -> SFO / SJC Aug 12 (Must arrive by 11:00am)
SFO / SJC -> SBA Aug 15 (Must leave after 5:00pm or 10:00pm)
Happy (UA) Flying!

"Is 2P worth it?"
I fly UA 3-5 times a year midcon, 1-2 transcon, 1-2 transatlantic. This year I am at the upper range, so there's a chance I will make 2P, if I pay about $200 extra to make a transatlantic flight on *A rather than something else. Is it worth it? Yes, I know, it's all relative, but I am interested to hear from 2Ps who have to make a moderate effort to maintain that status but have no realistic chance to ever make 1P or above... Are you happy? Do you notice the difference in terms of op-ups, treatment overall, etc.? Is permanent E+ "worth" the extra effort it takes to maintain 2P? Thanks.
(My feeling is that if being 2P gets me 1 op-up of any kind during the year along with E+, then it's worth it, but what do I know!?!)

If you cut that estimate down to 2-3 midcons a year plus 1 transcon, then it would be a much harder decision - more like the one boeingair faces.
(Not to tempt you or anything, but: 1P is twice as good as 2P. The 100% bonus makes previously undreamed of mileage accrual possible, and reserving exit rows is fantastic. And the previously mythical op-ups actually happen for me now.)

My travel patterns are much like yours. I've been 2P for two years now and it's worth more than $200 to me--avoiding the 31" of E- alone is worth it. And priority check-in has saved me more than once from missing a flight.
I say, go for it, and don't look back!

Two more benefits that haven't been mentioned are the 25% mileage bonus (not a huge amount, but still nice) and, more importantly, standby priority, which can save the day in irregular operations - you'll still be behind all the 1P's and 1K's, but ahead of everybody else.

So far I have done 3 r/t transcons this year, and I see my travel accelerating in the near future. (I pretty much only do transcons) Also, because of FT, flying UA has also become a hobby of sorts, so it would be fun in that respect to make 2P as well.
As for $$ given to UA, I have spent probably around $1200 or $1500 this year on tickets, and my budget is fairly flexible so I don't mind paying my way to 2P.
I'll keep you guys posted on how I qualify, and I hope to continue participating in this great community. ^ ^

As someone who just made 2P and spent roughly half my time split between E- and E+ I've come to the conclusion that it is not worth it for the following reasons:
1) Basically no shot at ever getting upgraded to first. Especially for those of us stuck mostly on Ted.
2) Early boarding - Sure it feels good to board before everybody else but I've never had a problem finding bin space unless I'm one of the last 10 people to board.
3) Priority security line - Nice perk for those airports that have them, but it doesn't really apply to me.
4) E+ vs. E- This one I thought the hardest about, at 5'9" my knees easily clear the seat in front of me when seated in E-. My issue is more with shoulder room which is identical between the two. About the only thing I miss in E- is the room to open my laptop which is sorely lacking, not a big deal though. As a big E+ fan initially now I can't detect a difference in comfort between the two (at least for me).
So I've come to the conclusion that I won't spend more than a $30 premium to fly UA domestically. If I can requalify for 2P next year I will, but I'm not going to spend much extra money to do it.

Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to decipher the routing rules below, but I just can't do it.
I'm usually intelligent (enough), but this seems to be getting the best of me. Can you guys make anything of this? It will be for travel from SJC -> OXR.
FROM-TO OXR-UA-LAX-UA-SJC*
FROM-TO OXR-UA-LAX-UA-ONT-UA-SBA-UA-
SFO-UA-OAK-UA-SFO-UA-SJC*
Thanks everyone!

Good reasons all; what about the 25% bonus? For the miles that you fly normally in a year, that itself could be worth between $50-100 right?
