Two more benefits that haven't been mentioned are the 25% mileage bonus (not a huge amount, but still nice) and, more importantly, standby priority, which can save the day in irregular operations - you'll still be behind all the 1P's and 1K's, but ahead of everybody else.
If you cut that estimate down to 2-3 midcons a year plus 1 transcon, then it would be a much harder decision - more like the one boeingair faces.
(Not to tempt you or anything, but: 1P is twice as good as 2P. The 100% bonus makes previously undreamed of mileage accrual possible, and reserving exit rows is fantastic. And the previously mythical op-ups actually happen for me now.)
I understand the question you guys are asking: Is 2P really going to be worth it for me?
So far I have done 3 r/t transcons this year, and I see my travel accelerating in the near future. (I pretty much only do transcons) Also, because of FT, flying UA has also become a hobby of sorts, so it would be fun in that respect to make 2P as well.
As for $$ given to UA, I have spent probably around $1200 or $1500 this year on tickets, and my budget is fairly flexible so I don't mind paying my way to 2P.
I'll keep you guys posted on how I qualify, and I hope to continue participating in this great community. ^ ^
