no more snacks in Y of UA/CO

i know this may be discussed on CO forum, but wanted to get UA FTer's opinions on this new no-free-snacks-in-coach policy that CO just adopted

http://travel.usatoday.com/flights/p...tzels/146173/1

interesting quote
"This is clearly a reflection of standardizing the onboard experience between United and Continental," Henry Harteveldt, an airline and travel analyst for Forrester Research, says to MSNBC. "Sadly, instead of elevating the United onboard experience, Continental has chosen the lowest common denominator."

if cutting it can save 2.5 million to CO fleet, the adding it is only a mere 2.5-3-mill for UA's fleet. c'mon, with oil in the half-billion-a-year range, what is 2-3 mil for goodwill of free pretzels?

Of course! You didn't think E+ would come free did you? Expect more yr2000 esque dissapointments. But they are still *the* leading airline!

Can't we do without a bag of peanuts or a biscoff in Y? I'd prefer they spend the money on something worthwhile.

It is petty. Especially when the pay for snacks run low and there isn't much selection. That's the way it's going. Bring your own than you know it will be decent.

what can you really get 'worthwhile' besides small snacks for goodwill for 3 mil bux on a large global carrier? the goodwill snacks may actually increase bookings, even if minor 1-2% - it would more than recover the 3 mill extra expenditure.

The snacks don't really starve off hunger. If I want to eat, I'll buy something from buy-on-board cart. The snack selection wasn't that good to begin with.

I'm afraid I agree. The little pretzel bag was not anything to write home about.

As long as there are still free drinks, I don't care much. I generally think it's better to bring your own food on board if you think you'll get hungry for a flight that doesn't get a meal. I won't pay $3 for a drink, but I would pay $5 for a snack box if I was really THAT hungry...

PS: Can I have my tulip back?

And how long do you think free drinks will last?

It truly is a race to the bottom.

I wouldn't worry - remember what happened when ghetto leader US tried charging for soft drinks?

I think bottom is way behind them... they are going beyond.

if you compare US based airlines, to their Asian counterparts - they are miles apart.

How about comparing to WN who provides both drinks and snacks?
