But this is no longer the case, as mentioned on many threads and backed by my personal experience. Or, at the very least, it's not FIFO together with sponsor status. My girlfriend (no status) and I on different PNRs (different origination cities), I sponsored her an upgrade before applying for my own, mine cleared months out, hers has still not cleared.

Help Please
Mrs Trappy, Junior Trappy and myself are off to Tampa via Washington and I wanted to know the best way to get us upgraded on the internal flights. Obviously I know UDU will only apply to one passenger but if I split the PNR then I will not get the E+ for them on the TransAtlantic. I can happily use a Regional Upgrade for the additional person but will the system see the other two people automatically for the "free" UDU?
Thanks in advance

Any issues spliting a PNR with minor child?
I have a flight with my wife and child on one PNR. Had to purchase E+ for the minor child to get everyone into E+. Is there an issue with splitting the PNR so to be put on the UDU list?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Not sure I understand the question
Presently a PNR with 3 passengers that you plan to split in a 2 passenger and a single passenger PNR (with purchased E+ access) ???
For UDU you can only have one companion on the upgrade list with the elite.

Correct, without splitting the PNR, I would not get on the list. By splitting the PNR, that would put 2 on the UDU (me and my wife). I was planning on having them take the upgrade if cleared and I take my son's E+ seat.

However if you do split, than you could do a mileage upgrade request on the single PNR.

What you propose shouldn't be a problem. But if there was concern, why not have E+'ed your wife instead of your minor child? The only thing I can think of is that your wife has status that you are thinking would help if the UG's came down to the gate?

Ripper-Thanks. I should have made the wife the E+ upgrade. Didn't really think of it. But I think when I did the reservation online, since my son was the 3rd person, it defaulted to him for the E+ purchase. Wife doesn't have status, but does it matter if she's my companion for the UDU?
WineCountry-I would do the mileage upgrade, but it's a trip to Hawaii which has that nasty co-pay!
Perhaps I should split the PNR and then do a CR-1 for my son?

To split or not to split (itin)?
The wife and I are flying ORD-FRA in a couple of weeks with W fares and have already applied SWUs. The tix were purchased a couple of weeks ago and the UGs have not cleared yet. The last time we did this trip we did not clear the UGs and I thought it may have been because there were 2 of us on the itinerary and the NC space may have been opened up one at a time.
When I purchased these tix the agent advised me not to split the itin as the UG priority is based on status (I am a 1K and my wife has no status). I thought clearance was based on time on the list (FIFO) not status, but the agent on the 1K line asked around (including her supervisor) and said this was not the case but rather that the list was always status based (not just at the 24 hour window before the flight), and said the only time it was advisable to split the itin would be if both were 1Ks.
After all the recent changes I'm not sure what the current policies are, so I thought I'd consult with the collective wisdom of FTers. What would you do in my situation? Split or not?

Don't split
If you don't split, the odds are still not great -- probably what will happen is that you won't see 2 NC spots open up at once, so neither of you will get your upgrade until the day-of. On the day-of, they effectively get split, so you could get yours but she again probably won't.

Another reaosn for separate PNRs (until the merger is more advanced)?
Just learned something new arising from the UACO merger.
Mrs. Lurker and I have an all UA metal outbound and a CO meal UA flight number (1st leg) and UA (2nd leg) return. Wanted to UG the outbound using 1 SWU from each pax account.
NO CAN DO! says 1K desk.
To do this (and the reason we cannot do it online) is that they have to first split the PNRs and then apply the UGs. Turns out that they cannot do so for a codeshare itinerary with CO metal.
So, no dice. Have to wait to apply the UG at the gate (which of course we won't need to hopefully because of UDU).
Anyone else know a work around.
Otherwise sounds like yet another good reason to originally book itineraries as separate PNRs
Thoughts anyone?

The agent is incorrect and simply does not know how to do it.
You can pull one upgrade from each account while on the same PNR. Done it a number of times.

agent is confused -- codeshare flights can not have SWUs applied in advance, but others have had no trouble applied upgrade instrument to the UA coded, UA metal flights.

The plot thickens.
Have called 3 times now and had 2 different supervisors look at it. Cannot be done. ALWAYS pulls from one account only. They even tried having one of us guest the other. They are all absolutely confused by this but explained that with the merging of 2 computing systems they are starting to see some bizarro stuff crop up. Put a note in the United field and asked that I call back during times when UA MP "Cert experts" are on call for them.
