Hard to know. Some end up on avherald, some are reported to a FAA/NASA database that was mentioned here some time ago, some are only reported internally in the company, some are never disclosed by the pilots. It's not because we don't know of any events, that there haven't been any. The investigators will try to find anything that points in this direction and they will include it in their report if it is relevant. They may even interview pilots that reported similar events.
The FAA considers this among the information it will use to decide whether a grounding is appropriate, but the public pressure is already becoming overwhelming. |
I do not understand how anyone can believe the FAA these days is truly independent.
I understand Boeing not wanting the planes grounded they are there to make profits, but the FAA is supposed to protect the flying public. I believe there is too much fraternization between the government agency and the industry that agency is supposed to oversee. The US (FAA) is not showing themselves to be a world leader for passenger safety IMO. |

I for one hope no accident ever happens again to any aircraft, not just the MAX. I trust the investigators will get to the bottom of what happened and act accordingly. In the interim I don't wish ill will on any planes, passengers, companies, federal agencies, etc. I do NOT trust investigators who have conflicts of interest with the companies they are investigating. That's true for airlines, cereal, and Tickle Me Elmos. @:-) The only people with selfishness here are the execs at Boeing who stubbornly cling to the idea that, after two similar crashes killing 300 human beings, revenues mean more. |
President grounding 737 Max 8&9s via emergency order as soon as landed. No further take-offs.
Both OGG-LAX flights today are 739 MAX. This is going to disproportionately affect UA's Hawaii/West Coast routes today. 1273 SFO-OGG shows as "taxiing". It'll be interesting to see if they take off and how long order takes to percolate through system. |
Just added to the wiki: Trump announced an emergency order to ground the MAX8/9 in the USA, effective immediately but they can fly to their (next) destination if currently in flight. |

One of two things happened: actionable data from the Ethiopian investigation is available which pushes the needle in favor of grounding (really bad), or the FAA caved to public pressure (also a bad outcome, but not a surprise in this day and age).
Either case is highly disturbing, but this tragedy truly creates a no-win situation. |
Good call to ground them. Need to see what the issue is here. Safety is the most important!

Looks like the FAA finally fell in line, and the MAX is grounded worldwide.
