The Deep Dish on United's Exciting New Menu Items
Chicago-style deep dish pizza tops a list of delicious new offerings on board July 1
Colorado-based New Belgium Voodoo Ranger IPA takes off September 1

CHICAGO, June 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- United is adding something new for every taste with several new in-flight menu items available for purchase. Starting July 1, customers can experience a slice of Chicago with personal-size Uno's deep-dish pizza, and United will expand its onboard beer list to include New Belgium Voodoo Ranger IPA beginning September 1.

United customers will also have more Choice Menu options from which to choose, including Bistro on Board items like the breakfast egg white flatbread; Uno's deep dish spinach, cheese and garlic pizza; Thai-style Chicken Ciabatta sandwich; and the new, Mediterranean-inspired Protein Box, featuring a healthy mix of almonds, sesame sticks, roasted red pepper hummus and cracked wheat salad.

United has also refreshed some of its popular Snack Shop items, including the Tapas Box, a customer favorite. The updated Tapas Box includes flatbread crackers, almonds, bruschetta, cheese spread, hummus, olive crackers, dried fruit, ginger mints and a sea salt dark chocolate caramel.

"As part of our ongoing commitment to putting our customers at the center of everything we do, we are always listening to their feedback when it comes to food choices on board our flights," said Jimmy Samartzis, United's vice president of Catering Operations. "Our customers told us they are craving pizza, and we heard them. We are excited to offer two new options – a breakfast egg white flatbread served on morning flights and deep dish pizza from hometown favorite Uno's on afternoon and evening flights."

All new menu items and refreshed snackboxes will be available for purchase on flights within the U.S. with a scheduled flight time of more than 3.5 hours and on all international flights from the U.S. to Canada, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Snack Shop items including the Tapas, Classic, Select and Ben Flyin Kid's snackboxes are available on all flights over 1.5 hours within North America, including the Caribbean and select Latin American cities, Singapore and Australia. Learn more about where you can get your snacks here.

United's popular cheeseburger and fries ($11.99) will remain on the menu. View United's refreshed Choice Menu with the new items here.

January BoB & Snack Shop updates:
  • Pepperoni Uno's to replace the Spinach/Garlic
  • "Chipotle Chicken Club Sandwich" to replace the Mediterranean wrap.
  • Olives back in the Tapas box. Some other changes too.
  • Beef stick back to Ben flyin box. Also adding teddy grahams, and some other changes.
  • Select box will now be entirely gluten free, instead of just "Containing Gluten Free options"
As with any snack box changes, I'd expect to see the new stuff mixed in with the old until they're sold out of the old style. Hopefully the packaging will be different enough to easily be able to tell which version is onboard.

Disappointing that warm vegetarian options are removed. The spinach pizza was a good compromise.

I felt the opposite - a pizza isn't great for anyone who's anything more strict than lacto-ovo, and quite a few people aren't too keen on spinach and garlic as pizza toppings.

I do agree though, a warm vegetarian friendly is badly needed, particularly on long transcon or Hawaii flights.

Edit: added the list with a few more details to the wiki.

fezzington:

Much appreciated for letting us know the updates for January 2018. I'd suggest that we start another thread for next quarter's BOB or perhaps retitle this one to be a running thread for updates and people reactions/feedback/visceral responses to BOB on UA.

Interesting, a UA FA who is also AA PLT. If true, really says something about UA.

Also, I tried the Uno's pizza-spinich one. It's was better than what AA used to offer for an Uno's pizza entree, but still not the same as going to Due's sitting on the outside patio on a nice Sept afternoon.

glad I’m not the only one.

UA used to have a decent veggie meal option most of the time, even if it was cold, then stopped it, now is going back to basically cheese plate only if you’re a vegetarian, which isn’t really a meal.

Also disappointed they got rid of the Garret’s a couple of months ago

No problem. I wish they'd be more proactive about announcing these sorts of things (i.e. bring back UAInsider), but that's neither here nor there.

I thought about starting a new thread, but as this one has plenty of activity (even after the initial updates from OP), and the menu appears to now be changed monthly, I decided to stick with this one. A retitling might be in order, though, you're right.

I flew a bit for my previous job. Earned UA Silver in 2015, AA PLT in 2016. I suppose I'll have to drop that from my profile once February 2018 hits, since I haven't flown as a revenue pax on AA since late last year.

In any case, I suppose they'd want me to give the usual spiel of these being my own opinions and that I am not speaking on behalf of my employer.
