UA has announced that the SFO Polaris lounge is opening 30 April 2018

Summary
The International UC is closed for renovation to a Polaris Club. The SQ & BR lounges have been closed and will be integrated into the new facility. Polaris lounge open 30 April 2018.
SFO Polaris Lounge opens 30 April 2018 (Previews - Press 25th, MP 27th)

The old GFL (near G99) has been converted into a premium cabin international lounge (not an UC). Eventually, it will be converted into a UC for the non-premium cabin international passengers (*G in economy). Now operating as an United Club

The F and E concourse UCs plus again the temporary mezzanine UC lounge (across from Gate 71) are options for those not eligible for the temporary G premium cabin international lounge.

Previous Updates

1 Oct 2017 on united.com
On October 1, the United Club location in the International Terminal will be closed to launch its transition into a United Polaris lounge. An additional United Club location will open across from Gate 71A on the mezzanine level at the end of September. Customers departing out of the International Terminal should allow 10-15 minutes to walk to their gate from the United Club location in Gate 71A or Concourse F.

Closure of San Francisco SilverKris Lounge for renovations

The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in San Francisco will be closed for renovations starting from 01 October 2017. As part of the renovations, Singapore Airlines will begin a transition to a newly constructed, shared lounge facility operated by our Star Alliance partner, United Airlines. It is scheduled to open in early 2018.
Earlier thread summary
Summary of posts suggest the present SFO Global First Lounge will be available for much of first half of 2017. Reports are that the current Global First Lounge will become a "regular" UC, while the current international (G Terminal) UC will become a Polaris club (which will integrate the space currently housing the SQ & BR lounges). UA is also constructing a new UC, either in Terminal G or E (or both). Construction has begun in the G Terminal United Club, a large portion of which is now boarded off. Latest info from UA suggests "summer 2018" for the SFO Polaris lounge opening.

Yes, but if you want to drink anything finer than SkySwill (TM), you have to pay for the "luxury."

Apparently construction has begun in the International Terminal UC to convert it to Polaris. Your odds of getting sent to the IFL has increased.

+1.... CL had a new breakfast item (a sausage egg biscuit), dang it was good!

I am hoping the Polaris lounge will blow the Centurion out of the water, but, Centurion has always been tried and true for me!

Global First Lounge

Can anyone confirm when the GFL is slated to cease operations as a GFL?

Many thanks!

Sent from United Club to GFL

Monday, 20 Feb. - Sign outside SFO Intl G location of United Club saying not accepting one-time passes. Long line to get in at 11:00 AM. Spouse and I (flying to FRA in Polaris Business) sent down to GFL, as were a few people in front of us. GFL crowded but we got two seats next to each other, so we were happy!

I was there today, feb 21 at just after 11am. No such luck. No line and enough seats available.

i was told today by the GFL agent, the GFL soon will be the UC lounge! once the large UC at the front of the internarional terminal has been converted to Polaris!

Also i was told New Polaris Lounge will NOT only be for FIRST CLASS PASSENGERS , but for both Business & First Class customers, Will be allowed in.

That is partially correct. Being a first class or business customer won't gain admission to Polaris lounge unless you are traveling on a Polaris flight. That's a small subset of the first and business class flights departing SFO daily.

*A F and J also get Polaris access so it is essentially all premium passengers unless you're thinking of domestic which of course has no lounge access at all.

I fly SFO-YVR regularly, often in United Business. I am *G. I also continue on to HNL sometimes, and get United Club access due to international itinerary and *G. Would I gain access to the Polaris lounge on these F and J international tickets?

Only with an AC departure SFO-YVR in J. Otherwise no.
