UA has announced that the SFO Polaris lounge is opening 30 April 2018
Summary
The International UC is closed for renovation to a Polaris Club. The SQ & BR lounges have been closed and will be integrated into the new facility. Polaris lounge open 30 April 2018.
SFO Polaris Lounge opens 30 April 2018 (Previews - Press 25th, MP 27th)
The old GFL (near G99) has been converted into a premium cabin international lounge (not an UC). Eventually, it will be converted into a UC for the non-premium cabin international passengers (*G in economy). Now operating as an United Club
The F and E concourse UCs plus again the temporary mezzanine UC lounge (across from Gate 71) are options for those not eligible for the temporary G premium cabin international lounge.

Earlier thread summary
Summary of posts suggest the present SFO Global First Lounge will be available for much of first half of 2017. Reports are that the current Global First Lounge will become a "regular" UC, while the current international (G Terminal) UC will become a Polaris club (which will integrate the space currently housing the SQ & BR lounges). UA is also constructing a new UC, either in Terminal G or E (or both). Construction has begun in the G Terminal United Club, a large portion of which is now boarded off. Latest info from UA suggests "summer 2018" for the SFO Polaris lounge opening.

On October 1, the United Club location in the International Terminal will be closed to launch its transition into a United Polaris lounge. An additional United Club location will open across from Gate 71A on the mezzanine level at the end of September. Customers departing out of the International Terminal should allow 10-15 minutes to walk to their gate from the United Club location in Gate 71A or Concourse F.
Bummer - was just in GF lounge and was told that in two weeks it will be a United Club - no showers, no open bar, etc. Was also told that "Polaris" is just a marketing term and that until the actual Polaris lounge opens in 8 months, it's United Clubs for everyone. .....
Closure of San Francisco SilverKris Lounge for renovations
The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in San Francisco will be closed for renovations starting from 01 October 2017. As part of the renovations, Singapore Airlines will begin a transition to a newly constructed, shared lounge facility operated by our Star Alliance partner, United Airlines. It is scheduled to open in early 2018.

At some point we realized there were people wandering in search of chairs, but it was only when we left just before 11:30 to catch our flight that we were shocked by the long queue outside.
If you schedule yourself to land at SFO by 8:15-8:30 a.m., you should be able to grab a chair without difficulty.

Further to my posts above, we arrived from YVR about 8:30 a.m. and felt fortunate to find three chairs together - it was already "comfortably" full, unlike our previous rarefied visits.

Yes they can. They made announcements for the pair of Toronto flights that leave around noon. The desk staff was trying to push as many people out of the lounge as possible, because they were at capacity with a line of people at the entrance waiting for others to vacate their seats downstairs.
Compared to my prior visit in July when this was still a GFL, the beverage situation is the same (maybe even better with the two new fridges full of drinks), but the food situation is worse. Similar to a regular UC setup. The hot food is gone, no more cut apples or oranges (only whole ones now.)
I do have to say that the staff is definitely doing the best they can given the limited seating available here. Most everybody was quite understanding about the wait, and the staff was trying to move everybody through as soon as possible.

Just booked a J award ticket for next June, EVA outbound, ANA inbound, to SIN. 160k miles before the increase in November.
Assuming the Polaris Lounge is open by then (only half-joking), will I be eligible?
Will there be better *A lounges in SFO in the same time frame?
My flight departs SFO at 1 AM so I might hang out at least a couple of hours.

I'm a little confused, according to UA website, there is a temporary lounge located between gate G98 & G100, however the wikipost is saying there is no lounge in the International Terminal starting 10/1/2017. Is the temporary lounge still open, is it only for biz/first class passengers? Thanks.

The lounge was so messed up today that they just gave me a $25 Visa card to not go in.

I find most people on the Canada flights don't show up particularly early to the airport.

The old First class lounge, same situation happened to me 10/23. I didn't take the $25 because I was first in line, but man what a cluster. Not only that but they'll let in Global Services (even if there isn't an available seat) and that gets everyone in the line really, really pissed. The manager was doing a good job and I told her I felt really sorry for them that they had to put up with this until the summer.
The lounge only has 120 seats according to the staff, and well over 1,000 biz seats just for United alone, daily.
