Honestly I think there was much more going on than the pilots described / it doesn't take more than an hour to add "a little fuel" and the poor woman who boarded was on the plane immediately - something went badly wrong on this flight and it's appalling that UA claims weather is the issue...

I'd say just relax. I don't see anything unusual with how soon you got back going. You were already a little late. Maybe the passenger caused this one. I've heard of that. Who cares about what the "official" cause was in the middle of it. It just says delayed now.

Lol honestly it doesn't matter to me since my home is tokyo - but for many people on this flight connecting to places like singapore - the official reason for delay means everything - I guess I shouldn't assume that this point is obvious in the future....

Another reason to always worry about a freshly maintained UA plane.

N211UA (2511) came right out of XMN on Fri 2/19 to GUM. First flight was evening 873 GUM-NRT. Then it got stranded.

As a result, Sat 2/20 morning GUM-NRT-GUM will be subbed by a sCO 73G. Evening GUM-NRT will be delayed until HNL-GUM arrives. Evening NRT-GUM is still tasked to 211UA/2511 which is supposed to be fixed by then. Either way should still be enough time to be back for Sun 2/21 morning GUM-HNL or GUM-NRT but not both.

And:

UA990 | SFO-CDG | 767-300 | cancelled due to maintenance

so therefore,

UA984 | CDG-SFO | 767-300 | cancelled due to maintenance (for tomorrow)

Well, it sounds like there was a lot of confusion on this flight, but to give just a little bit of cover to UA, it was WILD here yesterday, with sustained winds >35MPH and gusts well over 60. ORD had the highest misery index in the world on Flightaware, with >80% of flights delayed or canceled in the mid afternoon. But you're certainly right that they'll take any chance to blame it on weather. My wife & I (and another GS friend), were flying TUS to ORD last Sunday, and they couldn't get the plane to boot up. Tried a soft reboot that didn't work, then had to shimmy into the tale to disconnect the plane from the battery and do a hard reboot (inspiring great confidence...), which finally got us going 3 hours late. Then they noticed there was an inch of snow in Chicago and triaged our Barbie Jet to cancel overnight. Of course the reason given was weather, and no one (but us GS's) got a hotel voucher. Pretty useless...

IA 58, SFO-FRA. Now 45 minutes delayed due to late arriving aircraft. Fortunately, I have (had) a reasonably long connection. As replied to the travel agent when they emailed me with notification, "I sort of expect UA long hauls to be delayed".

Sadly, if I am flying without margin, I no longer fly on United.

Edit to add that now at an hour delay, my connection is no longer looking so easy...

Yea United...

Can someone find a cancellation reason for Saturday's UA6? I'm on Monday's UA902 and it's the same tail number #3002.

Well apparently the issue was a lack of positive bag match (still don't understand why we pushed without that but I guess its irrelevant), and then when we went back to the gate to offload bags - TWO (I originally thought it was one) new people got on (one of which was the bag match issue) - and then all the paperwork, etc, and more fuel, and then receipts for fuel - the usual stuff - and absolutely none of it weather related. We took off over 90 minutes late - and pilots managed to make up some time on the way.

The most amazing part was that as usual the staff at NRT were waiting IN FORCE - I have never seen so many staff waiting for one plane - clustered by final destination (BKK, JL, SIN, etc..) and over 30 different staff holding up individual name signs to personally escort folks to their next flight - they even opened up another security area for the transiting passengers. It was something to see. My bag came down quickly in baggage claim. From the time I walked of the plane until I was sitting on the limousine bus home was 19 minutes - and no that's not a typo. What an efficient place - simply amazing. There were a lot of people that didn't make their connection and I don't know what UA did for them - but a lot made it that probably wouldn't at any other place - I give the staff at NRT all the credit - they deserve it!

The official reason for delay is still listed as severe weather - that plane sat there all night (it came in from Tokyo the prior day) and weather had nothing to do with it. I sure hope that they treated miss-connects properly - they deserve better than that.

If I'm reading United's website correctly*, it says "aircraft maintenance"

*there are multiple listings for UA6 with two showing canceled and one showing delayed

If the winds were as high as reported, the initial delay could have easily been for weather. Then operational difficulties added onto it. Either way if anyone missed a connection, they probably booked too tightly. No matter who is flying it, if you can't survive an hour delay on an international flight, you're pushing it

I don't think you understand - WE PUSHED BACK ON TIME - with no issues whatsoever - the sky was clear. Yes it was windy but that didn't disrupt anything. We then sat there and then turned around to go back to the gate because of the bag match issue, then everything past that was due to operational difficulties. At NO point was weather EVER an issue with that flight - the plane was there the previous day! There is only one reason UA would classify it as weather and I think we all know what that is...
