GS/Global Services is the highest tier of elite status. It is by invitation -- the invite criteria is not public but seems to require substantial annual spending with UA both in terms of absolute dollar amounts and purchasing higher fare classes (higher cpm - cents per mile).
GS have significantly enhanced services / benefits over 1Ks. There is little said publicly by UA on GS benefits and/or qualification.

Known facts from United:
- Global Services recognizes the extraordinary dedication of our top flyers. We consider a number of factors beyond the usual Premier-qualifying criteria.
- We look at your travel spend on United-operated flights relative to that of other top Premier flyers over recent consecutive years.
- Usually, members invited to Global Services tend to consistently purchase premium cabins or fully refundable tickets.

We appreciate your commitment to United® in 2014, and thank you for making us your choice of airline so often throughout the year. We've carefully reviewed your request to be reconsidered for Global ServicesSM status. Unfortunately, based upon your flight activity, we are unable to extend a Global Services invitation for 2015.
As you plan your travel for 2015, here are a few things to keep in mind:
■ Global Services recognizes the extraordinary dedication of our top flyers. We consider a number of factors beyond the usual Premier®-qualifying criteria.
■ We evaluate your travel spend on United-operated flights relative to that of other top Premier flyers over recent consecutive years.
■ Usually, members invited to Global Services tend to consistently purchase premium cabin or fully refundable tickets.
On behalf of everyone at United, thank you for your commitment and valued business. We appreciate that you make us your choice in the skies, and will look forward to seeing you on many future flights.
Best regards,
Your Global Services team

I had the same experience this past November. Booked in XN waitlisted to business with GPUs (three of us traveling). I kept close watch on the fare buckets, nothing opened in business. Called GS at T-48 (and T-96, T-72, etc.) and they manually opened business upgrade inventory. We took the last three business seats with GPUs. Really nice way to fly on vacation!

I don't know about entrance lounge but there is a GFL in C that you have access to that is fairly hidden behind the CS desk at about C21.. Its remodeled food cooked to order, pour your own booze, and great service.

I'm more interested in the entrance lounge - I know they escort you to the front of the line, but I already have precheck and never wait more than 2 minutes to go through security anyways, trying to figure out the added benefit. I don't want to act like a virgin when I walk in there.

I wouldn't attempt to bring your kid's entire school choir through the GS lobby for their annual trip to Washington DC, but companions-- even a companion on a different flight but just checking in at the same time you-- should not be a problem. +2 or +3 on the same PNR/flight is also no issue.

There was a small seating area with room for like 4 people when it opened; I don't remember if it is still there since you have to turn around to see it when you walk in the room.

There is a separate GS / IFC Lounge post security next to the the customer service center by Gate C-16. Only available if traveling in Global first or Business first as a GS. No +1 allowed.

"Requalified for 2nd year - roughly:
$40K PQD (around $12K of this on 016 LH tix)"
Anybody else getting the sense that the bar has been set pretty low this year? I mean, if you're only counting United metal, here's someone with less than $30K. And it seems like there are also a lot of low $40Ks making it too.
Here's my guess: qualification really is about the top 1% (or some %). The exclusion of Amex and other so called "bulk" fares from PQD has significantly lowered the bar for the top 1%. I wouldn't be surprised if a 1/4 to 1/3 of the former 1% got dropped because of this.

Requal has historically been reported to be lower than the initial qual requirements -- so the two need to be separated. Also has been clear there are some qualifying based on other than actual flight history. So trying to fit all anecdotally experiences in a single bucket will probably be frustrating and unsuccessful

They don't seem to mind. If there is a rule against it, it certainly has never been mentioned much less enforced.

There are exactly two chairs there where one can sit down. Not really a lounge.
