8/3/15 UA 862 HKG-SFO (N179UA) just cancelled due to aircraft maintenance. They pushed back the departure time back a few times from 1330, 1345, 1420.

Now showing an extra sector.

8/4/15 UA 2085 HKG-SFO (N179UA) 1230 - 0931.

Wow, those 787's sure are "game-changing". Just what on earth does UA do to these new planes to make them sux.

It will be in the SEC Filings for sure - but whether you can find it or not is another matter. I don't look at airlines SEC filings to know where it might appear. Forget their earnings calls and the reports their marketing team issue, I would be amazed if they showed it in there.

Something going on in London? I noticed today (Monday) UA upgauged 2 of the 3 ORD-LHR flights from 767s to 777s.

Since most of the payouts are e-certs they probably show up mostly as a liability rather than a cash item or an expense, and substantially discounted for breakage.

Some things that make you shake your head given how transparent things are these days with the information UA decides to share.

I guess "delayed due to a late inbound aircraft" sounds better than "late because we don't have enough aircraft," or "late because the schedule is really just a suggestion," or best of all "late because we just don't care."

The make-up flight out of HKG to SFO was delayed which will cause a mis-connect for GS friends family member. They spent the night at the Regal Airport Hotel at HKG. The only explanation they got was a bad light bulb. His wife thinks we are all crazy flying so much.

That has all the signs of an aircraft swap. So it's sort of correct. The root reason (the originally scheduled aircraft couldn't do it) probably isn't in the automated system.

Be thankful UA has a system that gives you a reason and where the aircraft is coming from. It's a lot better than nothing like the rest.

You mean the usual Maintenance >>>> Weather/ATC delay reason transition?

Bathroom issues...just what you need on a long haul flight . That and no entertainment.

Even UA isn't daft enough to schedule a 747 for a 30 minute turn...

Complaining about this is like not understanding expert mode and complaining why your upgrade hasn't cleared when there are still F seats for sale
