Consecutive flights with mechanical problems - 3 and counting
97% of what I fly is sUA 757s. As sUA pilots, we're also qualified on the 767-300 but I haven't flown one for a couple months. I can't remember the last time one of my flights was cancelled due to mechanical issues. A few delays, but that's about all in maybe a year.

coincidences happen, and are important to the individual, but the averages take this all in. So an individual set of circumstance does not disprove the averages.

There's been a lot of that. Much like the ps swaps, these really hurt for those of us who were looking forward to starting our Hawaii vacations with a lie-flat, and wind up on one of those awful ex-ATA birds.
I suspect UA loses a handful of customers for good every time they do something like this.

It's an improvement from the old UA to have these nice planes flying to Hawaii, but why are they so unreliable? The 764 are younger than the pmUA 777/763s.
Come to think of it, I've encountered the most problems on UA whenever paying the extra $$ to sit in First. Maybe I should just stick to buying cheap "flip-flop" tickets

I'm confused because all the present PS aircraft have N5xxUA registrations and are 757-222 (as is the rest of the domestic sUA 752s and the 8 of 13 old style PS that were retired ) while the sCO 752s are Nxxxxx registrations and are 757-224. I guess we will need to have one of the fleet experts straighten this out.

I think I was slightly confused by the changes that happened when they were refurb'ed; I had read somewhere (but am too lazy to find it now) that they used sCO planes (because the 3 class 757's were retired and not refurbed) as the "new" p.s. planes, but that sheet proves that they just used other sUA 757's.

In 2014 (and late 2013) I have had a spate of bad luck with operations. Some above talk about statistical averages, etc. That's fine. Life Happens. But in 14 years of flying 1K, I never had as many issues as I do now, and trust me, I fly a lot less on UA now. In fact, I've got a whopping 8 segments this year.
So yesterday, I was supposed to fly the 787 from DEN-IAH, but with the impending snow I decided to SDC to the next earlier flight. Not only was I upgraded on the A320 (something that I wasn't going to get on the 787, with all those BF seats) but we left relatively on time, with only a small ATC delay and then had to deice. We arrived IAH 1 hour late. Meanwhile, the 787 had a creeping/rolling delay and eventually they subbed a 739 on the trip with it arriving just shy of 5 hours late.
Had I stayed on that 787 I can pretty much guarantee you it would have been the last UA flight I'd have taken this year. I have no future bookings and I would go out of my way to book away now, even to pay more for reliability. They just can't run a "safe, clean, reliable" operation. Safe and Clean I'll give them. Reliable, nope.
